A graph showing the price per pound for different vehicles and types of cheese. There are a surprising number of cheeses in the top half, such as Roquefort.

Also, go listen to the Ezra Klein podcast episode "What if [Anthropic CEO] Dario Amodei Is Right About A.I.?" Relevant quote: "And so at some level, sometimes, not in all circumstances, the models seem to know when they’re saying something false and when they’re saying something true."

What's the distinction between a program lying and a program merely being incorrect?

Tock - Reservations - Restaurants, Bars, and Wineries Book reservations, takeout, and unique culinary experiences at restaurants, bars, and wineries around the globe.

It's so hard to believe that 10 years ago today was the first day of Tock. Ten years ago I walked into the Alinea Group offices, sat at a spare desk, and set to work creating the app that became ExploreTock.

Story Pirates is so great! We downloaded a bunch to entertain our 5yo on a road trip and I think we liked them more than she did

Mistaking Airplanes For Stars - YouTube

Oh shit we're plugging our favorite obscure 90s indie bands now?? I have been waiting 30 years to tell people how much I love Gritty Kitty's Mistaking Airplanes For Stars (youtube.com/playlist?lis...). Yes I know everyone else sighed a collective meh and forgot about it but everyone else can suck it

I've finally put my finger on what I find distasteful about superhero fiction. It's that the fundamental conceit is that whatever problem you have, you can solve it if you can only find the right person and punch them hard enough.

It astonishes me how many people will pay a bunch of money and specifically go to a place where the whole point is to listen to a thing, and then not listen to that thing

In that case, have you tried:
* The Cyberiad by Stanislaw Lem (Kandel translation)
* The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe

Two of my favorite books in the world. Both are "literary sci fi." Cyberiad is short, BotNS is both long and somehow much bigger on the inside.

Have you read any of the Culture books by Iain M Banks? If not, I'd recommend them, starting with The Player Of Games.

Makes you wonder if Donald Trump could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot a _dog_ and not lose any votes, doesn't it?
