BREAKING: I'm reintroducing my bill with @markey.senate.gov to end qualified immunity for federal officers—including ICE agents.

This bill is for Renee Good, Keith Porter, & everyone in America to know that when ICE agents break the law & kill our neighbors, they'll be held accountable.

Why do "I'm up for that" and "I'm down for that" mean the same thing?? English is ridiculous

Me to Sylvester (cat): Sir, can you just be patient for one minute
Sylvester: *head-butting me*
Me: Nope, that word isn't in his vocabulary.
Kid: No words are in his vocabulary.
Me: That's not the point 😒

Happy birthday to my favorite brother, @metafrantic.bsky.social, who once wrote on his birthday wishlist "Joan not to call for _1_full_week_" while I was away at college. 🤨 Sorry you probably didn't get that wish! 🤷🏻‍♀️

As a young adult the excitement is all "I can stay up as late as I want!" and then when you're an older adult it's "I can go to bed as early as I want!" 👵🏼
(this post brought to you by 25-year-old me who would never have expected 51-year-old me to voluntarily go to bed at TEN PM 😳😱)

NWS now has two scenarios for Tues.: Mainly rain on the coastal or a chance of up to 6 inches in the Greater French Toast Area. Frankly, we're no longer used to large amounts of snow, so we're getting vexed - and raising the alert to 3 Slices.

Poem titled: “Ode to Those Who Block Tunnels and Bridges”

By Sam Sax

teach us there can be movement
in stillness. in every broken syllable
of traffic a syllabus that says
while you are suffering we are all
going to be unwell—let us
instead distill business as usual
down to the speed of a tree eating
light. as usual, business is built
from freight trains and warships
even when 'it's just coffee.'
these bridges should only connect
the living, so when the living turn
again toward death worship
it's time to still the delivery of plastics
and red meats to the galas of venture
capital. to reject our gods if they are [second page of poem]
not the gods who teach us all that comes
from dirt returns to it holy—
the holiest word i know is no.
no more money for the endless
throat of money. no more
syllogisms that permission
endless suffering. no more.
and on the eighth day of a holiday
meant to represent a people
fighting occupation my teachers
who stretch a drop of oil into a week
of light take each other's arms
across eight bridges of this settler colony
singing prayers older than any country
as the chevron burns in the distance.
o stilted vernacular of life—
o pedagogs of the godly pausing—
what mycelia spreads its speaking
limbs beneath the floors of our cities.
the only holy land i know
is where life is. in the story
i was taught alongside my first
language it takes god six days
to make the terrible world
and on seventh day he rested
and on the eighth we blocked traffic. about this poem
"I made this poem in the days between one group of beloveds occupying the Bay Bridge and several collectives of fellow Jews and allies occupying eight bridges on the eighth day of Hanukkah to protest the ongoing genocide in Gaza. This is a poem of praise. A poem that orbits the nature of bridges and the infrastructure of the human spirit. A poem made to lift up those risking their bodies and livelihoods to disrupt the normal flow of capital that enriches people and institutions making unchecked money off mass death. Abolish ICE. Free Palestine."
—Sam Sax
Sam Sax is a queer Jewish writer and educator. Sax is the author of Yr Dead (McSweeney's, 2024); Pig (Scribner, 2023); and Bury It (Wesleyan University Press,
2018), which received the 2017 James Laughlin Award. They live in Oakland, on Ohlone land.

God I love this poem. It is gorgeous and angry and life-affirming. a perfect reflection after a weekend of protests.

I have a lot of complex thoughts about how old our (MA) senators are, but they are IN THE MOMENT. And Markey is facing a challenge from a much younger rep who's come out anti-trans. This is Markey's response. He knows that standing for something MATTERS.

A person holds a sign reading "The Harbor thirsts for tea" with a drawing of a person on a boat throwing a box into the water. The box is labeled "ICE TEA." The drawing also includes a black vehicle labeled ICE plunging toward the water. A person wearing a frog costume sits on a curb holding a sign that says "GIVE ME RIBBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH" A sign reading "FREE BALLS! For members of Congress who have lost theirs!" and the sign has many colorful small pompoms attached to it. A person holding a sign that says "Trump cheats at golf (and everything)" walking next to another person holding a sign that says "Alexa change the president"

A few of my favorite signs from #nokings in Boston today.

Laws are not self-executing. Is this an obvious Hatch Act violation? Of course. But without good men and women in government faithfully executing the laws, it doesn't matter.

When this is all over, assuming we still have a constitutional government, there needs to be an accounting.
