This discussion helped students make more connections between the impact of AI not just on what they are learning in oceanography but also in music

Last week was UN Global Media & Information Literacy Week, with this year's theme of "Minds Over AI". In addition to having students do an AI exercise with hurricane data, I showed them this video and told them AI is the marshmallow - do the work and there is a reward (don't jump at the marshmallow)

The recent postings around the Seattle Mariners fans causing an "earthquake" reminds me of what we went through in Philly in 2022 - the claim that my campus seismometer (20 miles away from Citizens Bank Park) recorded a home run was, and still is, an excellent lesson in information literacy. ⚒️ ⚾

Famed polar exploration ship Endurance not as strong as legend held, researcher says Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton's crew famously survived after the Endurance became stuck in ice in 1915. A researcher says the ship was ill-equipped for the voyage and Shackleton was aware.
