But until we are in a position to stand without the US, which I believe will come. Our options are limited.

Firstly, I think you are making more of that than it really was.
Secondly, while I personally wish that the UK would just stand up and tell Trump to fuck off. Diplomacy means sometimes doing what you personally find repulsive if it's in the best interest of your country.
