A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.
When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.
This is outrageous.

Ever wondered how the COVID-19 vaccine was developed so quickly? It’s thanks to this week’s Conversations guest,
@nobelprize.bsky.social-winning biochemist Dr. Katalin Karikó.
Ben Macintyre’s latest is a gripping account of the 1980 standoff at the Iranian Embassy in London. The author takes time to describe the historical background and personalities at play, which makes the story’s climax all the more compelling. Thanks @crownpublishing.bsky.social for the free book.
The USAF removed Tuskegee Airmen & Women Airforce Service Pilots of WWII from basic training curriculum. For 30 years I promised these women I would not let them ever be forgotten again. We worked for decades to have them remembered. The Airmen too. Knowledge is power. 🗃️ www.msn.com/en-us/societ...
HERE ONE MOMENT, Liane Moriarty: The premise is irresistible--a woman on a flight from Hobart to Sydney begins predicting the age and manner of death of her fellow passengers. Beautifully written, this propulsive novel has a serious theme. Could be a great Xmas present for that special someone.
Katalin has devoted her life’s work to researching messenger RNA (mRNA), persevering despite decades of setbacks and dismissal. This resilience facilitated the vaccine breakthroughs that have saved millions of lives since the start of the deadliest pandemic in a century.
