#OnThisDay in ’67 Jim Clark won the #DutchGP. So what, you may ask? After all, he’d won it 3 times before. True, he had, but this win was special, for it was the first #F1 GP win for the Cosworth DFV V8 engine. It would win 154 more. Pic: Clark, Lotus 49, DFV, Zandvoort.

...and, what's more, he drove to Zandvoort from Paris that weekend in his gorgeous, yellow, Lotus Elan S3 Coupé. He hadn't sat in the new 49 before practice: all the testing was done in the UK by Graham Hill.

Lotus and Jim Clark did it all in 1965 - Indy and the F1 Championship in the same year. Both badges on the same (late-1965) Elan road car.

Congrats to Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin on their victory in Sweden today for Toyota. Great drives, too, by Taka Katsuta (P2,Toyota) and Thierry Neuville (P3, Hyundai).

Thierry Neuville superb for Hyundai today in Sweden, finessing his way up from P5 to P3. Toyota also looking good in the hands of Elfyn Evans (P1) and Takamoto Katsuta (P2). Roll on Super Sunday.

Hello weekend.

I’m sad to hear that Ed Hinton has passed away, at the age of 76. A fine sports writer in the grand American tradition, he was very helpful to me at Indy in 2000, when an #F1 GP was first held at the Brickyard. He was a great wordsmith, too (see screen-grab for an example).

Superb drives by both Carlos and Nigel. I asked Ron Dennis a few days later what he thought about Nigel's pace in the wet and he replied, "I was much more impressed by Chico Serra..."
