Earth's heat to produce electricity for homes in UK clean energy first Water super-heated by rocks will also provide the UK's first domestic supply of the critical mineral lithium.

Great news from #Cornwall, where #geothermal energy and lithium are now being generated from deep, hot granite. βš’οΈ

Is enhanced rock weathering ready as a climate mitigation strategy?

Our latest work explores key uncertainties β€” from feedstock availability and the land–ocean continuum to plant–soil interactions and socioeconomic impacts.

Why has it been so wet this winter? This winter has felt exceptionally wet for many parts of the UK, with repeated bouts of rain and very few prolonged dry spells.

We find large #carbon stores and fluxes associated with ice sheets, their land fringes, and oceans.

But many remaining uncertainties, & we still lack measurements to assess change. πŸ§ͺ

Great to be a part of the team working on this.

Ancient global warming was amplified by widespread forest fires and soil erosion 56 million years ago the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM), a period of rapid global warming, occurred. Within the span of a couple of millennia, temperatures rose by 5 degrees, triggered by a huge release of carbon. Due to its likeness to present-day warming, the PETM is often used to test the long-term environmental response to large-scale perturbations, making it a very scientifically valuable climatic event to study.

New research shows that global warming during the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum was amplified by widespread forest fires and soil erosion, which occurred within as little as a few centuries after a huge amount of carbon dioxide entered the atmosphere πŸ”₯
