So please stop perpetuating the lie. This IS who we are. It's who we have always been. And it needs to change. NOW.

I cringe every time some politician (or, as the author points out, a white person professing to be an ally), says "this isn't who we are."ย  As the author accurately points out, this is EXACTLY who we are. And we have a 600-year history of violence and subjugation to prove it.

5. And ban stock buybacks.

But first we have to acknowledge that the reason CEOs are getting paid insane amounts of money is not because the โ€œfree marketโ€ dictates that theyโ€™re worth it. Itโ€™s because weโ€™re letting them get away with it. @rbreich.bsky.social

2. Strengthen labor unions, which fight for better wages.
3. Use antitrust laws to break up big corporations that dominate their industries, raising prices for consumers & reducing job prospects for workers.
4. Raise taxes on corporations whose CEOs are paid hundreds of times more than the workers.

23.02.2026 02:54 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

because increasingly, part of their compensation is in shares of stock.

CEOs can now effectively give themselves a raise, while workers get the shaft.

What can we do about it?

1. Raise the federal minimum wage, currently a measly $7.25 an hour, which hasnโ€™t been increased since 2009!

23.02.2026 02:49 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

But instead of sharing these profits with their workers, corporations and their CEOs siphon them off into stock buybacks.

Stock buybacks reduce the number of shares available for investors to purchase, which drives up the value of the remaining shares.

These rising share prices bump up CEO pay,

23.02.2026 02:48 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Why is that? Not because CEOs have become so much more valuable than their workers over the past 50 years. No, itโ€™s because the system is rigged.

Big corporations chronically underpay workers compared to their workersโ€™ productivity โ€” that is, the value of their output โ€” on the job.

23.02.2026 02:46 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

However, if worker pay had increased at the same rate as CEO pay since the late 1960s, the typical worker would be earning $432 an hour!

Of course, greedy corporations arenโ€™t paying their workers anywhere near that amount. Instead, theyโ€™re paying their CEOs 280 TIMES MORE than the typical worker.

23.02.2026 02:45 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

What would a typical worker earn now if their wages had grown at the same rate as corporate CEO pay over the past 50 years?

In 1968, the typical worker earned $25/hr., including benefits, in todayโ€™s dollars.

By 2024, the typical workerโ€™s earnings, including benefits, had increased to only $36/hr.

While @gavinnewsom.bsky.social might not have been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, his entire political career has been funded by the largesse of billionaires. He never forgot those obligations during his tenure as @governor.ca.gov and he will not forget them should he enter the White House.

5. Thanks to his incestuous love affair with his tech bros in Silicon Valley, @governor.ca.gov @gavinnewsom.bsky.social continues to sell out the people of California in favor of tech billionaires, including those who are amassing endless wealth delivering AI technology to #ICE Gestapo terrorists.

that had been enacted into law, and issuing an anti-labor EO that was declared illegal by the Courts.

4. Despite his false bravado during the LA #ICE raids, as @governor.ca.gov, @gavinnewsom.bsky.social has sold out the immigrant community countless times, in favor of large agri-business interests.

23.02.2026 01:38 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

3. Not only has @governor.ca.gov @gavinnewsom.bsky.social repeatedly sold-out Labor to the large corporate donors he hopes will pave his way to the White House, but he has also engaged in active union busting activities, including attempting to claw back a legally negotiated state worker pay raise

2. @gavinnewsom.bsky.social became SF mayor thanks to his support of marriage equality. As @governor.ca.gov he REPEATEDLY sold out the #LGBTQ community to pander to the same fascists he hosted on his podcast, INSTEAD of pandering to the PEOPLE.

23.02.2026 01:27 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

As @governor.ca.gov, there is NO ONE @gavinnewsom.bsky.social HASN'T sold out in support of his own personal, political self-interest:

1. He sold out his own climate goals in favor of the fossil fuel industry and the corrupt "public" utilities like PG&E (the second most expensive in the nation).

And his trolling of the GOP on social media is all thanks to Camille Zapata, Newsomโ€™s brilliant digital director.

But behind all his snarky tweets and his macho chest thumping lies a hypocrite and a liar. Behind all the public bravado lies an empty suit whose words are meaningless and hollow.

Gavin Newsom didn't spearhead California's redistricting plan out of some deep-seated love for democracy, but to enhance his image for his presidential run. His loathsome podcast has done nothing more than provide a platform for fascists like Steve Bannon, Michael Savage & the deceased Charlie Kirk.

@laurenegan.bsky.social of @thebulwark.com: you are from Tennessee not California, so I don't expect you to know the truth about Gavin Newsom. He is every bit the corporate elitist many people know him to be.

DoJ cases against protesters keep collapsing as officersโ€™ lies are exposed in court String of embarrassing defeats for prosecutors as experts condemn DoJ effort to cast people as โ€˜violent perpetratorsโ€™

"In Chicago, of 92 people arrested for assaulting or impeding officers last fall, 74 cases have resulted in no charges; in 13 cases, charges were filed and dismissed; and five charged cases were still pending *** As of the end of January, there have been no convictions."
