Gatekeeping makes it obtrusively hard for new people to feel included and making smaller walled gardens takes away from the whole point of collaborative community building.

Been seeing a lot of weird exclusionary behavior among Melee folks recently. Hidden side discords, high school-like cliquiness, and segmentation that honestly could kill local communities.

It's really eye opening how Spaniards guzzle oils, smoke on the regular, and sit around all the time AND YET have one of the highest life expectancies in the world because of how much time they spend just chilling with the homies

It can be really hard to draw a line between someone making a mistake that's redeemable from the perspective of being allowed at these events again, vs. this person has shown really bad behavior that will drive others away as a result of feeling potentially threatened by some behavior w/o remorse

For sure some people could use some leniency but the real issue is that respect for privacy unfortunately can get taken over by truly awful people with an agenda for open bigotry yielding no consequences, regardless of the content of what the actual ban was for to radicalize people to worse things

I think a big part of the problem is in most local communities, what goes into bans is often way more than what people on the outside see such as for privacy reasons. With Hax and even some bans locally that was definitely the case talking to some TOs.
