agreed - in my case, I’m an indie consultant, so I’m a one man band

I am very comfortable with R, but again, startling these supposed magical AI tools suck at this supposedly basic functionality

turning my text into a slide deck in a basic design format that I can then iterate on, this would in fact save me some time

I frequently have to knock together a PowerPoint with only a few hours notice, so not a scenario in which I’m going to be able to commission someone.

I would legitimately use an AI tool to look at a spreadsheet of Help Center articles and help me put them in categories and ours couldn't even do that.

I could indeed do all of this, but it seems really weird and telling that this capability is not already widely available from the big AI companies.

I do not want any fucking computer input on my writing, I just want the computer to put it into a slide format I can edit, and yet somehow

Last year, I tried to find a AI tool that would simply take text I’d already written and *without changing any of my words* convert that text into a set of basic presentation slides.

I couldn’t find any tools that wouldn’t alter my text.

Not sure if this exists now, but I felt that was ominous.

I've seen numerous examples of this in recent days - we're at a point where some reporters are using LLMs as a source and not even remotely properly factchecking, but also where LLM generated material is making its way into other material and being unknowingly reproduced by others.

From my own academic research, even pre LLMs there was a huge danger of zombie factoids that begin in a respectable publication by mistake and then get reprinted for decades because no one is backtracing to the original source. Once bad info gets into the system it can take years to clear it out.

All historians know the sinking feeling of tracking an "authoritative" reference back through several generations of writers to an unsourced assertion by someone nobody's ever heard of.

Now AI can make up new ones in no time at all.
