that said, i don’t think there’s a perfect way to cope with trauma. seeking validation for your feelings only goes so far when it leads to putting down others for indirectly triggering that trauma. it’s a ---very--- human way to behave, but not one many people empathize with.

and in fairness, i can give the benefit of the doubt to people who are traumatized by a certain taboo kink or fetish that exists online. people react to trauma in different ways.

the argument always comes back to NSFW smearing of “the image.” like are we always going to pretend like exposure to this community has always come through shock media coverage?

i don’t think any layperson is going to view this niche positively. public opinion was never good, and blaming one person or artist for “ruining” it feels like cope.
