Using a pair of tiny silver scissors, I unpicked the hem and climbed inside, where I proceeded to refashion the various pieces until they became a comfortable nest for my own dreams, then I cut star-shaped holes to let my dreams fly. Sometimes there’s a flamethrower.

When you play the Maestro D, you have a venue, a social hub for food and entertainment.

You didn’t make that fool draw, and now there’s a mess to clean up.

Before they burned the world, they had what we can’t imagine: they had all-you-can-eat.
But all-you-can-eat crackled, sizzled, and burned like the rest. Now we have only this: maybe-enough, and if we’re lucky, a safe place to enjoy it.

When you play the Luminous, you're a beautiful socialite and artist, gracious and elegant, insightful and manipulative.

PLAY THE LUMINOUS IF: You want to glide through the background of everyone’s dreams, shining when it pleases you, drawing the spotlight and directing it.

There is ugliness in the ashes of the world, and there’s beauty too. Some beauty is soft, kind; this beauty is yours, but so is the other beauty: consuming, whispering, dangerous.

When you play the Lawmaker, you create and rule a stronghold, with a gang to defend it and a population
to care for.

PLAY THE LAWMAKER IF: You want to wrest order from the chaos and hold people to account. Yourself included, or there’s hell to pay.

there’s not much law to be found.
Most places, if someone’s wronged,
they’re on their own.

too long without.

When you play the Hocus, you have a devoted and dangerous cult.

PLAY THE HOCUS IF: You want many to do your bidding and follow your lead, and you’re ready to keep one step ahead of them.

THE HOCUS
The world burned to ashes, and every god and demon
it had burned with it.
Now there’s the fouled sand, the choking smoke, the world’s howling psychic maelstrom, and the desert’s killing eye:
who do we worship now except these?

When you play the Harrier, you have a dangerous and skilled, but chaotic, combat gang.

PLAY THE HARRIER IF: You want to rain down chaos and death on your foes.

THE HARRIER
We are the fire in the ashes of the world.
We are the claws that rake the earth.
We are the screaming machines that tear the roads to ruts and shake the ruined buildings.
We are the furious horde of the not yet dead.

When you play the Gearcutter, you have salvage grounds and a workspace, and you can fix almost everything that’s broken.

PLAY THE GEARCUTTER IF: You want to take things apart to see how they work. Maybe put them back together again, maybe not.

THE GEARCUTTER
Before they set fire to the world, they knew everything. They knew the workings of light, of time, of human life,
of space and of atoms. Everything.
When you know everything,
will you set fire to the world too?

When you play the Brain-picker, you have psychic powers and weird interests, and they go together…

PLAY THE BRAIN-PICKER IF: You want everyone to be at least a bit afraid of you, with good reason.

THE BRAIN-PICKER
When they burned the world down,
they didn’t know what would grow in its ashes.
They didn’t know that we would be born, we with our
eager, hungry brains, our unblinkered eyes,
our whispering, dangerous voices.

When you play the Angel, you represent life and hope in the ashes of the world. You can help who needs it most.

PLAY THE ANGEL IF: You want to be the medic everyone loves or at least relies on. At least when there’s a crisis.

When you’re lying in the ashes, burned and
smashed and spilt, what do you hope for? More
time, revenge, restitution, to finish what you
started, to undo what you did, to do what you
