Last year, in partnership with Hope Blooms, GCC’s Green Infrastructure team held a mini forest planting event in Halifax, NS, to celebrate National Tree Planting Day.

Together, we’re cultivating a more sustainable future, one community at a time.

Green Communities Canada is proud to support such youth-led initiatives like Hope Blooms in Nova Scotia. This inspiring group empowers over 150 youth from diverse backgrounds to grow food for their community, mentor others, and manage an award-winning off-grid greenhouse.

At the grassroots level, young people are making an impact by planting trees, advocating for more active modes of transportation, educating on reducing emissions and conserving energy, and more.

While some celebrate #YouthClimateActionDay on a single day, we believe every day is an opportunity to recognize youth leading the charge on climate action. Through education, technology, or community organizing, youth everywhere are using their skills to push for change.

The non-profit Black Environmental Initiative educates the black community on environmentalism + food justice. This year, BEI ran weekly urban agriculture workshops for Black youth, covering topics such as planting, composting, food preservation, and more.
