So many great places, just in BC: Whistler, Invermere, Fernie, Radium, Golden. Wine-touring in Kelowna, Summerland or Oliver. Tofino (or Ucluelet) for spectacular nature. Other favorites: Victoria, Nelson, Halcyon Hot springs near Nakusp, the Shuswap and Vancouver. I can recommend all of these!

I'm 64. I've been to countries in Europe and Asia, to the USA, Mexico and Australia. But I've been in Canada since 2016. I don't ever intend to fly again for pleasure, for a bunch of reasons, including as a gift for my grandkids. Everyone's grandkids. There's a lot of Canada to see.

During the pandemic we had daily updates of the people who died or were being hospitalized because of COVID. Why can't we do the same for the other public health emergency.

It's the drugs part, of course.

3/ But this moment also shows why voices like @jennykwan.bsky.socialΒ and her colleagues in the NDP caucus matter so much. They continue to champion human rights, peace, and international justice with courage and persistence, even when few others in Parliament will.

There are no good parents. There are lucky parents. I wasn't, but in a way I was, because I found out it isn't about me.

Agreed, it's messed up. The "parents' rights" lobby is trying to get society to sanction their abusive stance. We have to push back. But there's nothing black and white about parenting itself. It's this idea that creates the need in their minds to lobby - so they can be "good" parents but not change

It's super creepy if schools then treat this behavior as problematic, something parents need to be informed about. It's normal adolescence. It may be safer to play around with an idea somewhere else, before committing to it by coming out to parents. We all need to just trust kids to figure it "out"

Okay, but I don't think this is the right framing either. Kids don't tell their parents everything, nor should they. Adolescence is a time of experimentation and growing independence. Believe me, you can be an awesome parent; they will keep things from you (just think back to when you were that age)

I've known 2 people with this cancer, both under the age of 45, both parents with young children. One survived. The FIT test is relatively simple and low cost. This is worth doing.

US tourists have had the reputation of being ignorant, annoying and arrogant since at least the 1970s. When I was backpacking in the early 80s they sewed Canadian flag patches on their packs. That's how you knew they were American. It's arrogant to think everybody loved you until now. They didn't.

Don't take the stairs! There is an entire curriculum in SEL involved in these negotiations. On the other hand, we should also teach children to take the stairs.

We know a lot is going on right now, but we just realized that:

cabinet/board/panel = things made of wood

cabinet/board/panel = terms for organizations

Mark, the deals that you are making are for big corporations. Trickle-down economics doesn’t work. Please work for the people of Canada and our beautiful ecosystems.

Couldn't agree with you more on this one. We need more equality and collaboration, not a female version of the patriarchy (which, btw, victimizes men as much as it does women).

Mothering isn't just "giving birth".

Also, the impact of raising children may not be recognized, but there's nothing more impactful a person can do.

I say that as a preschool teacher (now). I have 2 degrees, 3 professional certifications, taught at universities, & been a school administrator.

That's arguable. If we forget the importance of nurturing, birthing and raising children then, as a species, we've kind of lost the plot.

Today, I count among my blessings the women I have worked with as colleagues, clients and community in public education and (more recently) child care. Together we have done the most important work humans can do: nurture and educate children. Here's to all of you.

Indeed, and some more privileged than others. There was no man-bashing in the original post. So.

Did you miss that it's International Women's Day? When we recognize women's accomplishments, that are so often overlooked?

Yes, there is sperm involved in making children. But maybe give us this one day a year to be recognized and celebrated?

We're all really aware of how "important" men are.

No, women should not be in charge. We need a different system that elevates everyone. This is the true hope of International Women's Day.

I looked for this on YouTube to show someone, and I couldn't find it, which says something about that algorithm & propaganda/censorship.

I'm not a Christian, but I respect it as presented here.

Trans children are perfect. Trans women are women.

"One of the great weaknesses of our era is that we get lone superhero movies that suggest that our big problems are solved by muscly guys in spandex, when actually the world mostly gets changed through collective effort."
~ Rebecca Solnit

Thinking about this on International Women's Day.

Here’s the blunt reality β€” reasonably-sized electric vehicles need to be the future of cars, but cars can’t be the future of urban mobility.

Fewer cars.
Less driving.
More inviting mobility choices.
Better communities and cities.

These are the 4 pillars of the REAL urban transportation solution.

The new bill proposed by the Conservatives prohibits the government from requiring union employment standards for new construction projects, paving the way for untrained, unsafe, race-to-the-bottom standards β€” meaning worse wages for workers and rewarding dangerous labour practices. #bcpoli
