Victoria’s Draft Financial Plan proposes cutting the Youth Bus Pass Program. 70% of eligible teens use it. Cutting it would harm safety, equity and independence. Email mayorandcouncil@victoria.ca to tell them to keep it, along with Bike Valet and Neighbour Space.

I think electric vehicles quickly becoming a large enough share of the vehicle percentage that they shouldn't get special treatment.

The Cowichan Tribes debate is quickly becoming an international culture war issue, which means any attempt by someone to try and clarify facts, timelines or arguments by the people materially involved in the actual discussion will not matter in slightest.

But literally none of this is correct.

Under the overpass is just a squashed rounded about so that makes some sense, but the unholy combination of a half diverging dimond and roundabout is truly atrocious.

If prioritized homes for people like we prioritize homes for cars we would be much further along in dealing with this housing crisis.

Saanich Council moves forward with Quadra-McKenzie Plan
Saanich - July 8th, 2025

Last night, Saanich council voted to receive a staff report containing an updated draft of the Quadra-McKenzie Plan, which will now proceed to a fourth round of public engagement.

"Building townhomes and apartments in existing single family neighborhoods is critical for solving the housing shortage. That's why we support the QMP, which would legalize thousands of new homes near transit, schools, and other amenities" said Jack Sandor, president of Homes for Living. "Furthermore, we condemn the hostile treatment many young people received from people opposed to the plan in the audience. Booing, jeering, and profane insults are unacceptable and only serve to make speaking before council more daunting."

In addition to booing and shouting that had to be shut down by the Mayor, at least four different young people in the audience reported harassment from other audience members, including homophobic and other graphic insults. "We are grateful to Mayor Murdock for doing what he can to ensure Saanich council is a place everyone feels comfortable to share their views."

We're pleased that after last night's vote, the draft Quadra-McKenzie Plan will now move forward to round 4 of public consultation.

However, we're concerned about the hostile reception many supporters of the plan, particularly young people, received from other members in the audience.

so I was here, and I gotta say that "NIMBYs who boo and shout at the mayor" are our staunchest allies in the fight for more housing

I was stunned at how rude some were: 4 of us got verbally harassed by QMP opponents. One later accused me of being a "piece of garbage" developer-funded "paid actor"

workshopping a new national defence strategy, hear me out:
1. the Navy buys a bunch of single-family-zoned land next to the Pacific fleet HQ in Esquimalt
2. build like crazy using the federal government's ability to pre-empt zoning

I'm guessing the serious cycling accidents and fatalities down by 37% are total numbers and don't take into account the increase in people biking

And you could also aim to set aside a percentage of the parking for visitors

Yeah grandfathering in current residents and vehicles would probably get the least pushback, while having a fee for new vehicles

Yes! There is no city boundary cut off. The downside right now is that without a docking station, if you pause your trip, your rental charge continues. Hopefully some neighbouring municipalities feel encouraged to join in. Until then, it’s still a lovely ride as long as you like.
