Like so many of you tonight, IK am rooting for “The Alabama Solution” to take home an Oscar. But win or lose, this film has thrown a spotlight on a serious problem that needs reform. Building billion dollar prisons is like putting a bandaid on catastrophic injury.

Thank you @iamwesmoore for your support of my campaign, but more importantly for the example you have set as Gov. of Maryland. Governors can make a positive difference in the lives of their constituents. You have. I will. Thank you!
It is hard to express the hope one feels when back in Selma at Brown AME Church and to walk across that bridge with folks who come by the thousands. It was truly a blessing for @louisenewjones and me to be there and to participate. This year was a clarion call for action.
Selma weekend would not be complete without a special shout out and thank you to my dear friend @RepTerriSewell, a daughter of Selma and a tireless advocate for voting rights and AL’s 7th District. Thanks for letting me tag along!
Always love to share a laugh and a selfie with @PeteButtigieg, but his remarks in Selma and Birmingham the next day were inspirational. Thanks for making another trip Pete!
I have said many times that it is the nation’s governors who are now on the front lines fighting for democracy, so it was great to have two of our finest - @iamwesmoore (pictured with Alabama’s next Lt. Gov. @EnslerPhillip ) and @JBPritzker - speaking truth to power in Selma .
One the best things about Jubilee weekend in Selma is catching up with old friends like Martin Luther King III and the great Rep. James Clyburn. They are still fighting the good fight!
…leaders from across the country, and many Alabamians. So many moments energized me for what lies ahead, especially when my friend Annie Pearl Avery, a brave foot soldier from that day 61 years ago, saw me and called me over to tell me that she is with me and to keep fighting the good fight!
The anniversary of #bloodysunday in Selma is about honoring the courage and power of the foot soldiers from that day in 1965, and recommitting to the fight for voting rights. On Sunday, I was honored to march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge with those brave foot soldiers…
…while the life of the man who pulled the trigger was spared in a plea bargain, and spent his life in prison. Members of the victim’s family and the jury who sentenced Mr. Burton to death asked the Governor to commute his death sentence. Gov. Ivey tempering justice with mercy was the right decision.
As governor, you often have to make hard choices, and I’m thankful Governor Ivey commuted the death sentence of Sonny Burton to life in prison without parole. Mr Burton is now 75 years old, frail and has spent more than three decades in prison. He did not pull the trigger that killed the victim,…
…Stay tuned for a big announcement from Governor Moore about the Alabama governor’s race!
During the Selma weekend @louisenewjones and I got to hang out with some amazing folks. One of the most enjoyable times was dinner on Saturday night with one of America’s great governors, my friend @iamwesmoore, his wonderful wife Dawn and DNC Chair @kenmartin73….
…Stay tuned for a big announcement from GovernorMoore about the Alabama governor’s race!
…. It was great to see so many friends from across the state and the country. Thanks to the NAACP for hosting such an inspiring event and for the important work they continue to do.
What an exciting - and exhausting - weekend in Selma this weekend. There will be a number of posts from me to follow but let’s start with Friday’s NAACP 2026 Bridge Crossing Gala in Montgomery…
Congrats to Coach Maurice Ford and the Fairfield Tigers for winning the boys 4A state basketball championship. You guys make all of us old Fairfield graduates very proud!

….In this rapidly changing world, I am committed to listening to and learning from our young people because the Alabam a we are building is for them.
Had a great conversation with the College Democrats at UAB earlier this week. Thanks to Robert Gaines, Jr. for moderating and to the students who asked very thoughtful, and often tough, questions. Their voices are powerful and important - and frankly often over looked…..
This weekend, I visited my friend, Mayor Charles Andrews and his wife Linda, in Monroeville. Charles is recovering from a recent health challenge with the same strength and determination he's shown throughout his history-making life. See you out on the campaign trail soon!
It's also about nurturing business startups within Alabama. What starts as an idea today could achieve the success of Buffalo Rock in the future. Thanks to the folks at Buffalo Rock for showing us around - and for the Grapico!
As governor, I will support our local businesses. Bringing economic development to Alabama isn't just about attracting out-of-state companies….
125 years ago, Buffalo Rock started as a family business right here in Alabama. Now, it employs thousands and significantly benefits Alabama's economy. My team and I toured Buffalo Rock's facilities in Birmingham last week and were so impressed by what we saw….
Great crowd at the NAACP Banquet in Eufaula last Saturday night where the theme was “Beyond the Ballot: Saving Democracy Through Advocacy.” Thanks to the Barbour County Chapter for having me as their keynote speaker.
Folks, I won’t be watching the SOTU tonight because I know it will just be more of the same dog whistle rhetoric that stokes division. I’m running for governor of Alabama because I have a different vision. I want to build an Alabama where everyone belongs.
This campaign is not about me, it’s about you. So I want to hear about your lives and the issues your communities face. We’re going to have listening sessions across the state, and this weekend we started in Union Springs. We’ll post the video right here at 6 pm CT on YouTube.com/@DougForAlabama
The separation of powers doctrine and the Constitution itself have suffered significant, but apparantly not fatal, blows under SCOTUS. The tariff decision gives Congress the perfect opportunity to quit being lapdogs and do their damn duty for a change!
…. criminal justice or Medicaid expansion, Rev. Jackson showed up, spoke out and pushed Alabama and America to be better. While his voice is now silenced, his inspiration and example lives on. Rest in power my friend.
Louise and I were saddened to learn of the passing of Rev. Jesse Jackson, a towering figure who was constantly working to bend the moral arc of the universe toward justice, and who never forgot Alabama. Whether fighting for voting rights, workers’ rights….
