I had a spell of pretty much *only* listening to American bands! Sonic Youth, Big Black, Pixies, Dinosaur, Buttholes, Pavement, early Mercury Rev. That was my whole deal for a couple of years!
Yeah, I went back to stuff like Joy Div, early Fall. But the Smiths were my proper gateway band - the band that started me listening to Peel, buying the music papers, having a floppy fringe etc etc!
From about Green onwards, they always had a jaunty, cheery song on every album didn't they?! Started to get on my tits, to be honest!

Big call. Actually, that album does have its moments to be fair.
They were the third band I saw live! Saw them at the NEC in Brum in 1989 - a horrible big barn of a venue but they were brilliant.

Britain *will* end up rejoining the EU. But it won't be soon or sudden. It'll be a drawn-out, incremental process (first CU and SM then, as we realise we're rule-takers, full membership). It'll take a couple of decades.
