I say this because sometimes tearing down your work can be rooted in a lot of different things, including a coping mechanism for self preservation even when it sounds distorted. (Also I’m really sick right now, so I apologize if nothing I’m saying is making sense)

Additionally—what is tearing yourself down an attempt at actually doing? Are you intending to try and protect yourself, or is it something deeper/an old wound? (This is meant more as self reflection, I am absolutely not requesting an answer.)

How would you talk to someone who you know closely who was dealing with the same problem? If they talked down about their own work, how would you try to encourage their thoughts to be more constructive/kinder to themselves?

I am so tired of life being this hard.

The benefit of choosing a different kind of school with a stricter program would definitely be that you could concentrate so much more on *just* your major as opposed to the many academic courses I had to take. I had to take 4 art history courses, i don’t know if private colleges do.

My main grievance is that I just did not have as much time to learn/get critique of 2D or to explore character animation as I wanted to. My capstone film was 3D animated & our team rendered in Unreal Engine, so it was a lot of troubleshooting. Only 2 years of my degree were animation specific

My graduating class from the major was only 17 people because my program is in its infancy. I guess what I want to say is at the very least, give smaller programs a try?

I know my school wasn’t as hard as maybe a private college might have been, but we had a really amazing arts foundation and when I actually got into my concentration classes, I learned so much. It actually makes me want to get my masters to keep going.

It made me want to make more art, even after.

Granted! UNCG isn’t an “art school” by standards. I went on a weird route. Started by wanting to attend SCAD, too broke, went to UNCA for new media, dropped out, did a game design associates at CPCC before I transferred right before UNCG announced animation.

But our school of art is really good

I just graduated with a BFA in animation from UNCG.

The most valuable experience I’ve had is in working with my professors, getting to learn about what goes into making an animated film, and *making* that film. Hell, one of my classmates is a dreamworks intern.

I learned a lot. Worth it.
