Albo's instinctive response to crisis is how do I survive this, and Dutton's is how do I weaponise this. Neither is leadership.

Agreed, Ketan. I had [incorrectly] thought any exceedance above 30% would require them to buy 'offsets' from the gov at that $75 plus CPI price.
Disappointed to find on re-read that this is not the case!

Thoughts on this from the DCCEEW factsheet? Probably worth an extra paragraph or two to complete your article.

This is poor form, Polly, and a gross misframing of an outstanding individual.

Hey Greg, any thoughts on how US tariffs may affect the trade with other markets? Whilst US domiciled manufacturers may enjoy the insulated market and supply shortfalls, does that lead to overcapacity to other markets?

Not one American voted for the person who is laying waste to the federal government and hijacking the secure data of US citizens.

I just wanted to lay it out: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Just two weeks ago, everyone was screeching about China stealing all of our data through TikTok, but now Elon steals it and the MAGA crisis actors are OK with it?

That's some fucking bullshit.

WA minister splits with Canberra on offshore wind WA energy minister Reece Whitby said offshore wind may be better suited to the west coast after several developers dropped plans for WA projects, opening up a divide with his federal counterpart

Bits not mentioned:
*1) SWIS is small (~2.5GW) compared to the minimum economic size for offshore wind (2-3GW).

*2) New regulatory context, with little chance of repeat work.

*2) Single dominant weather system results in little generation diversity benefit of offshore.

Keep in mind that most of the world's population didn't live through the last period of fascist dominance, most have little to no knowledge of it, and their primary sources of information are dedicated to misinforming them about it. That we are here 80 years later is hardly a coincidence of timing.

Vic gas squeeze opens up $1b storage opportunity A gas storage project off Victoriaโ€™s coast has grown by 50 per cent amid a flood of demand from customers looking to stave off the risk of winter shortages.

Since when is storage capacity measured in TJ/d? ๐Ÿ˜ถโ€๐ŸŒซ๏ธ

Good thread, Glen - water temps are what matter. And whilst water temp may be less sensitive to short-term ambient temperatures, the seasonal shifts can be impactful.

Agree this is a big unknown. Assuming a 20kWh/100km range, do we think households will plug in the car everyday to replenish the battery? Or will it just be an effective ICE vehicle? Wide range of emission outcomes here, pending behavioural patterns.

as LA is burning, a swath of the country is recovering from an ice storm, Alabama is preparing for up to 6โ€ of snow and Iโ€™m praying for the TX power grid, a reminder:

we donโ€™t need climate action just for future generations, we need it now.

the climate crisis is here, all around us

Respectfully disagree. Look at the nighttime profile (say 12am-6am). It's clear something else is also eating gas' lunch. PV+BESS is not alone here.

Fuel security falls short as 'war-game' report reveals vulnerabilities A report on an emergency exercise released under Freedom of Information reveals how Australia's dependency on imported fuel could leave it vulnerable to geopolitical tensions.

Did someone say energy independence and resilience delivered by renewable e-fuels? No imports required.

Think we all agree the position we are in shameful.
Question is what's next. If we do open new supply, how does it stay here? And even if that molecule does stay in Vic, the molecule that used to come from Moomba->VIC will now go ->Gladstone to fill a half empty LNG plant.

Regarding the backstop mechanism, does anyone know *how* the curtailment occurs? Is it constrained to zero (i.e. self-consumption of PV still permitted), or is it constrained to gross zero (i.e. switched off)? illustration below from Project Symphony. Help @glenne.bsky.social et al.

I think he's exactly what we need. We have enough x-factor, but the composure and disposal efficiency can be lacking. Hopefully we see some forwards actually leading chest out to a talented I50 kicker!

I believe Carbon capture is already a part of DRP plants - particularly those by energiron. Yes blast furnace is difficult, and won't ever get all the supply chain captured, but the reduction is the big emitter.
