w the ability to migrate their whole ass account to a new forum but still talk to users on the old forum? even more based

the long term freedom of a decentralised protocol based alternative but idk 90s/early 2000s style forums except the forums can talk to eachother sounds goated

i get social is unimaginably hard, and most users are too brain pickled by years of centralised social platform ownership to even conceptualise something better like–

1. Do better explaining to reg users what atproto is vs main bsky instance

2. maybe scale back moderation to be more user self directed like early days, less central, not the current inconsistent mess where yall get blamed for everything

anyway idk @jay.bsky.team don’t ban me please and who am I to tell you what to do here I’m just some random but like my wishlist tbh;

atproto is really cool, activitypub is rly neat but a lot of the ux is kinda dogshit, either way they need to either moderate way less or ban obv raging bigot etc

like at the end of the day if jay and co just deliver atproto idk if the rest matters, the pr explaining all the tech here for regular people has never been great and i wish that was dif, and it’s hard to trust and the handling of this mess hasn’t been great

powerful blocking tools and self curated content toggles were goated, people /wanting/ centralised moderation is busted the same way wanting centralised moderation for email would be busted

but like, self curated moderation was sort of the best selling point, so it’s rly wild that bluesky self moderating the central atproto instance ever became such a big thing in the first place

jesse singal having a career that ultimately profits off churning out ‘just asking questions’ style reckless trans panic and trans people being understandably upset about that, is a perfectly fine reason to ban him if we’re going by, broadly, the same standards other users have been held to

like if yall gotta lay off singal or whatever be consistent and lay off random users posting stupid shit too

but equally, the focus and clumsiness/heavy handed and oddly inconsistent moderation (or at least the appearance of it and kinda bad pr explaining what the hell is going on) is doing heaps of harm too

in general, there just aint enough explanation for regular users about bsky vs atproto and the whole damn point of what’s being built here

lowk still believe jay is trying to do the right thing here under insane circumstances and crazy pressure compared to literal hardcore nazis at the other sites but like, the pr handling here it aint looking great ig
