yesterday i walked up over a big awful hill to get groceries. my reward for doing this was the absolutely insane view from the top of the hill, out across the city to the hills beyond. i'm trying to lean into friction lately.

several of the people who were on the leadership committee back then are now journalists. same ethos. it's careless, cruel farming for engagement, no matter where it comes from, no matter what it does. because it's not real to them.

for my sins, i spent a little time at the cambridge union society as an undergraduate because i liked debate in high school. left in disgust when i realised that everyone there was there to farm clout for their CVs by schmoozing with the biggest-name, most controversial guest speaker they could get.

i'm not re-sharing the garbage re: how ~opinion pieces do not reflect the views of the newspaper~ but i WILL say it is deeply reflective of the mindset that people trained for positions of authority learn early on. it's the debate club thing. ideas don't have consequences; it's all just an exercise.

in case you need to hear it, i'm going to need all of us to keep walking up the hill. stop when you have to. but start again.

i have not known what to say all day. i still don't. but today my cat remembered our friend (an expert petter of cats) when she came over for dinner and rolled around all over her feet in happiness. tomorrow i will walk up the hill, for my agonies. and on monday i will find something to do about it.
