I’m calling it for the evening so I can eat some night chips without greasing up his sleek pelt, but this is going to make it terribly hard to get any work done tomorrow I fear

An image of a quotation from Marcus Aurelius' MEDITATIONS which reads:

"52. You are not compelled to form an opinion about this matter before you, not to disturb your piece of mind at all. Things in themselves have no power to extort a verdict from you."

Beneath the quote, diagonal pink type has been applied which reads;

Marcus Aurelius has already released you from the obligation to have a take

I keep seeing so many people on social media obsessed with having a take, in times of crisis. Hell, I've done it too. But remember: You DON'T have to have one.

It's ok to say I have no idea. Also, see image:

Hey, "House, Body, Bird" by @bernie-jsyk.bsky.social is out! This is a wild little roller coaster ride of a book that you can buy and read NOW (and you should!)

i have set up a great way of living where i will hear only second-hand of things like "the bad atlantic article" without ever coming across them directly. what's it about? why's it bad? let's just ride out the context clues and let it go

feel like i've been talking around this for a while but yes we are in the process of buying a place. same city, adjacent neighbourhood, immense trepidation but also cautious excitement

i keep being forced to confront my own name on terrifying adult paperwork and i keep not enjoying it one bit. i forgot that apples were possible, guys. you can't let me become a homeowner

(being VERY facetious, which i clarify because i saw someone get very mad at the entire notion of "a joke" yesterday)

I felt weird and bad all day and then I got home and realised I hadn’t eaten a fruit or vegetable in about 24 hours. Isaac should never leave town. I am not to be trusted with myself

I’m so bad at living that I forget that I like apples. do you know about these bad boys. just a crisp little juice orb you can consume

my husband and i often tell ourselves that our cat doesn't know about anything bad.

yesterday i walked up over a big awful hill to get groceries. my reward for doing this was the absolutely insane view from the top of the hill, out across the city to the hills beyond. i'm trying to lean into friction lately.

several of the people who were on the leadership committee back then are now journalists. same ethos. it's careless, cruel farming for engagement, no matter where it comes from, no matter what it does. because it's not real to them.

for my sins, i spent a little time at the cambridge union society as an undergraduate because i liked debate in high school. left in disgust when i realised that everyone there was there to farm clout for their CVs by schmoozing with the biggest-name, most controversial guest speaker they could get.

i'm not re-sharing the garbage re: how ~opinion pieces do not reflect the views of the newspaper~ but i WILL say it is deeply reflective of the mindset that people trained for positions of authority learn early on. it's the debate club thing. ideas don't have consequences; it's all just an exercise.

02.03.2026 16:00 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

in case you need to hear it, i'm going to need all of us to keep walking up the hill. stop when you have to. but start again.

i have not known what to say all day. i still don't. but today my cat remembered our friend (an expert petter of cats) when she came over for dinner and rolled around all over her feet in happiness. tomorrow i will walk up the hill, for my agonies. and on monday i will find something to do about it.

The reason The Terror is such a remarkable piece of not just television but also of both storytelling and art is because it was sensitively yet radically adapted by David Kajganich, who treated it (and still treats it) as a real labour of love.
