Digital illustration of Endres in a casual robe sitting in front of a painted divider screen at a round tea table decorated with a vase of blossoming branches. He has a plate of pastries and a tea pot with a tea cup in front of him, grasping the cup delicately and arranging the branches. The mood is quaint with pastel colours.

I'm researching pixel art portfolios for inspiration to make mine and I spotted some glaring turn-offs in otherwise stunning showcases 😬
I don't usually do these kinds of threads, but...
👇 Here are 32 art portfolio blunders to avoid (or fix!):

It's supposed to be cooled down in the fridge and eaten cold, but of course I'm already having a slice and burning my mouth 😂

A photo of a chocolate tart with pear sliced arranged in circles on it, with a light-blue kitchen gloves on the side that has a cat on it made of red and white squares.
I made a pear and chocolate tart! Inspired by @vazdimet.com 's Thanksgiving tarts 😌
It was supposed to be made with custard (creme pâtissière), but chocolate mysteriously made its way on it 😇

I need to have things like a nonfiction audiobook or a youtube documentary or video essays going on while I draw or I get bored—but I can't deal with anything requiring a big focus. That way it's fine if I miss a few words or a sentence, and I occasionally press pause or go back if I miss too much 😂

So to make I choice, I'd advise you to go with 1) something that people would associate with you, 2) something that illustrate your art style well, 3) if you can, also something that has the right mood / theme to represent you, your art and your writing

My profile pic is art I made from my first big #WorldAnvil article back in 2021. Since I was just starting to get involved with the community, I just grab whatever I had on hand that was pretty 😂 Since people knew me for that article, it help them recognise me on discord. Still love it years later 😊

That turkey looks great, what are you saying! 😂 Never heard of shoofly before and had to google it. Is it something very local?
Have fun eating them 😆

😱 I guess apricots are not super common in Norway?
We grow a ton in France - I went on holidays in the orchard last year. Apricot juice is a "nectar" & you need to cook them & add sugar, so it's not really something you do yourself but that you have to buy.

Humans are unique in having developed magic channels to speed up the transport of magic particles inside their body.
Other organisms have magic inside their body but not all have director cells to use it consciously. Its important for their health (e.g. immune system) & defense mechanism

In the end, I feel that once you play with an idea and appropriate it enough to make it your own, it's fine. Some people are always going to compare regardless of your inspiration - like if you write a magical school, everyone will talk about HP no matter how dissimilar it is 😂

A schematic drawing of the magic reserve in the human body.
- On the right, cells with a vast cytoplasm (i.e. cell interior) are used for storing magic.
- The cytoplasm is filled with a few big compartments called organelles.
- The organelles contain magic-binding metalloproteins (MBMPs), featured on the left.
- MBMPs are proteins that have a ring-like chemical structure with one or more metal atom bound at the centre.
- Those metal atoms bind magic particles.
- MBMPs with and without magic particles are stored together in the organelles, stabilising each other.
Schematic drawing of the mechanism of magic storage in the human body.
- On the left, cells of the magic reserve, which contain magic-binding metalloproteins (MBMP), with a magic particle on the protein.
- The magic particle then moves to a microtubule in the centre of the image, which is a long structure that carries many metal proteins. the magic particle hops on one of those metal proteins and travels from one protein to the other.
- The magic particle then reaches a director cell and its own MBMPs on the right of the image. Those cells are where magic is "used" by the human body.
Schematic drawing of the mechanism of magic casting.
- On the left half of the image, the human body, with magic channels reaching towards a type of cells at the surface of the body called a "director cell".
- The magic-binding metalloproteins (MBMPs) inside the director cells receive a magic particle from the magic channels.
- The magic particle is then transferred to a different type of protein at the surface of the cell and so at the surface of the human body. They are called "casting proteins".
- The casting proteins throw the magic particles outside of the body towards the target of the spell.
- The casting proteins throw a magic particle outside of the body, each given them a different spin and movement, which gives the particles special properties.
- The combination of different casting proteins throwing particles at the same time influences the global properties of the magic being cast, resulting in a specific spell being cast at the target, represented on the right of the image.
Here are a few examples of schematics I made to explain one of my magic systems, using the same art style I use at work for official scientific papers 😆

Thanks for adding me :D
When making magic system, I always end up going back to my biochemistry/bioinorganic chemistry roots and talking about molecules and magical particles 😂
If not that, then it'd all maths with runic geometric designs.

Yes, at first it was melting immediately, but we had a big storm over us and it snowed all day, so some of it had to end up sticking 😂
We'll probably get some ice over night as it'll be 0°c (and the forecast has just announced more snow in the morning), but it won't stick long after that.
