Today, I heard a guy explain to his friend why "not all men" is so wrong. He said the first lesson you learn about gun safety is to treat EVERY weapon like it's loaded, even if you think it's probably not. Treat it like it's loaded, for everyone's safety! That's exactly how women have learned to treat men.
Brilliant!

Under the proposed White House budget, the NASA Space Grant program would be eliminated.

I was a NASA Space Grant recipient during my Masters—it funded my research on water on Mars.

I then went on to work in science & mission ops on multiple NASA Mars missions immediately after graduation. (1/2)

I am sitting in a public library working on a grant, and a grandmotherly woman is patiently teaching a small boy how to read at the table next to me. Another woman is knitting nearby. The children’s section is packed with kids. Things in my country are bleak, but libraries are where I find hope. ❤️

Early evidence shows AI has big educational potential, but more in-class tests is a reasonable response to AI cheating risks as we figure out what to do next

Low-stakes testing is a powerful learning (not just assessment) tool. Tests help you remember better, access unrelated knowledge & learn more

The pact of the federal govt with universities was not a handout. It was a strategic decision to boost US leadership in technology, defense, and health. And it paid dividends. In tech, internet, in cancer drugs (for example), No other sector has invested in high risk high reward ideas like US govt.

I started a PD workshop series on assessment of library impact on student success—*literally* supporting efficiency and productivity. The workshop lost its IMLS funding on the 1st day of instruction. The cuts are indiscriminate, shortsighted, and damaging to the very cause touted for the cuts.

Experts Push Back on RFK Jr’s Infection Comments The new Secretary of Health and Human Services has made claims about measles and other communicable diseases that could lead to sickness, and even death, his critics claim.

The U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services has repeatedly claimed: “If you’re healthy, it’s almost impossible to die from an infectious disease in modern times.”

That is dangerously false.

Call Congress for our libraries. Show up for our libraries. American library association.

ALA is deeply concerned by reports that IMLS is sending notices to libraries claiming to cancel grants that are required by law. This harmful action will disrupt libraries' ability to serve their communities.

The DOGE Axe Comes for Libraries and Museums The Institute of Museum and Library Services has long received bipartisan support. But after years of trying, President Donald Trump has delivered it a crushing blow.

“What we are consistently hearing is that there is no data or evidence suggesting that federal funds allocated through the IMLS are being misused. In fact, these funds are essential for delivering vital services, often to the most underserved & vulnerable populations.”

“For example, if a $50,000 student loan balance is discharged, and the balance is taxed at an effective rate of 25%, that could result in a tax bill of over $12,000, due all at once. This could be particularly problematic for medically disabled borrowers…given their inability to work.”

Last I knew there are also librarians behind the scenes making copies of internet data and squirreling them away for researchers and others who might need it now or in the future. If you’ve got us, we’ve got you!

As a faculty member, I think I knew from afar what good people IES had. But over the past two years, I have gotten to work alongside so many of those who were just let go. I have learned so much from these friends and colleagues, and I am just dumbstruck at the scale of this loss for our country.
