anyway I love this run, highly recommend, and @ffrancavilla.bsky.social's art really sells the tension running underneath this quieter scene

it's great bc Maggie Sawyer is legit supposed to be "one of the good ones" but like she's *still* doing an authoritarian militarized police state, and the dissonance between those two things really feels like The Point.

A young girl meets her mother's new girlfriend, and notices her police badge. She shows fear, as cops in Bludhaven have the worst reputation in the country, but her mother assures her that the recently appointed police commissioner is "one of the good ones." the girl turns and sees something on the street, visibly alarmed.

Coming down the otherwise quiet street is a large futuristic-looking robot, armed with advanced weaponry and marked "police". The police commissioner proudly tells the little girl "that's one of ours" but the girl is still terrified. The cop says, smiling, that the robots are there to protect people - to protect police. hesitating, as if having a moment of clarity, she adds "it's not supposed to be scary."

y'all should check out the Nightwing 2025 annual, especially if you like it when the narrative gets meta. the in-universe moral panic & resulting comics code caused in part by a Batman & Robin expy comic made my day. also all the lore around the Zanni is interesting af.

they can't empathize/relate to characters (people) they don't identify with, and somehow that's the writers fault 💀

What It Sounds Like touched me on deep emotional level that even a perfect villain song can't quite reach. Being finally able to vocalize/express something you never could before was my 20s in a nutshell.

friendly reminder that the social taboos against fcking teens have in fact been in place for at least hundreds of years (& violating them has always been a hobby of the elite). it's not normal behavior even when it might have been technically legal.

at my school, we all went out and bought frog tape. green for quick stuff & yellow for longer/delicate stuff. also bonus tip if you need really neat edges/lines & you're using tape to get them: use acrylic medium on the edge of the tape to prevent seepage (for watercolor, masking fluid is better)

that said, I have sadly seen the hate for bigots extended to people in their regional proximity, and even to young children who are actively harmed by their parents' politics, with enough frequency to be alarmed.
