The Mail campaigned against ID cards last time. Their winning argument was that police would demand cards on the street, something that was never ever suggested by the Labour government of the day. The Mail hate Labour.

Kind of feels like a big deal that a Reform/Brexit Party former MEP has been convicted of taking bribes to promote Russian interests in Ukraine, and it feels like a bigger deal that this isn’t being treated as the major scandal that it clearly is.

London and New York are comparable cities. Their crime rates have been compared for at least thirty years. Sorry to hear it is seven times higher now (it was only three times higher on 1996)

Why is any American news on our bulletins? It is a faraway and increasingly foreign country.
Does anyone think US tech investment in the UK will benefit the British people? They will extract from us, that is for sure.

The four flavours of the UK’s remaining news organisations! Only one of them has to scrape a toddler’s breakfast off their office desk every morning.

Ironically, fear of crime rises as crime falls. If crime is commonplace people build it into their daily expectations.
If a crime happens in a crime-free neighbourhood everyone panics.

Media feeds a fear of crime, but (over time) can only work with reality.

Well, thirty years ago crime was at a post-war high in the UK (in the categories of burglary, robbery and vehicle theft).
I don't know about cable news, but I know about crime.

I read the new Lib Dem policy paper on climate change last week*, and it is genuinely excellent. The proposals are credible and ambitious, and clearly informed by good quality research.
