I think the only way the Democratic president breaks the cycle is by actually holding the Republicans accountable. So that is going to be THE thing I optimize my vote on: which Democrat promises the most aggressive show trials in US history of these traitors.
we remain firmly on track for 'republican president leaves the country an omnishambles, next democratic president is punished for not cleaning it up fast enough'
The only constant since Reconstruction is we constantly let the architects of this bullshit off the hook and then wonder how they slither their way back to power.
Here's my bottom line:
Much of what they are doing is bad.
Much of what they are doing is unpopular.
Pushback is working.
We are winning.
Keep fighting.
Be creative.
Push for what you'd want.
Allow for insiders and outsiders.
Realize that change takes time.
Reduce harm in the meantime.
you can discuss plenty of topics surrounding a trans person, such as their favorite films or whether gold or silver jewelry looks best on them. what you can't "discuss" is whether they deserve rights
The reason I want students to have to struggle with difficult texts is because I want them to have the capacity to make meaning in and of the world on their own.
According to Wikipedia they sold Corner Bakery in 2005. Still own Maggiano's
It happens in both parties, though much more quietly among Dems. (But the DC political class fawning over the dudely dudes running in the midterms is...notable.)
And if you are not that type of man, or God forbid if you're a non-man...well, you are inherently non-normal, substandard, not-the-best.
That idea has always been central to American electoral politics but has become so loud. The subtext is not just text; it's a 72-point headline.
I am begging y'all to stop confusing malicious ignorance with intelligence.
People who know better are resorting to using ableist slurs against the fascist state. All that does is contribute to the idea that some folk are not deserving of personhood.
That's fascist!
porn addiction isn't real. science agrees with me.
this is puritanical shame, often combined with people who struggle with dopamine release finally finding something that helps.

MAGA Christian and white supremacists can't assimilate into American culture or adopt the American ethos
me and the other scheming viziers are wearing shoes gifted to us by the king that are way too big. we look ridiculous. the whole court is laughing at us behind our backs. honestly this is a pretty low point for us, the scheming viziers

Me joining a boycott by accident because I would never set foot in a Chili's.
I'm not talking about people who live in TX. A business is deciding to hold an event at SXSW. No one is forcing them to do so, it's a choice. Those of us who think it's a shitty choice are saying so
Hope you have a good day continuing to not make this about me or about you. Ta!
For years I've been using "these people are fucking clownshoes" as a saying, and now the administration has come along and made it so goddamn literal
The country is being run by a bunch of dorks too scared to take their wrong-sized shoes off
I’m not calling for everyone to boycott SXSW, but hosting the gathering at this event, held in TX, is a choice they don’t have to make. If they aren’t willing to give up the professional opportunities associated with doing extra specifically at SXSW, their allyship is conditional
They don’t have to host a special gathering at SXSW, no one is forcing them to this at this specific event. It’s a choice, and those us who think it’s a shitty choice are calling it out 🤷♀️
I think you very much can ask that. Cis allies must be willing to put up with difficulties, losing professional opportunities, if that’s what it takes to make the world safe for our trans brothers and sisters
It’s not a high bar, but cis “allies” consistently fail to clear it
𝘙𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘺’𝘴 𝘉𝘢𝘣𝘺 is my favorite film about deviled eggs.
For all we know, Burke’s 18th century tastebuds would be so stunned by the taste of Starbucks’ coked out novelty drinks that he *would* deem them examples of the sublime.
I'm somewhat tempted to do an oral history project where I just interview old people about how much child death was normalized when they were kids.
Buddy also told me a "funny" story about how his cousin was short for his age until they realized he had worms.
And VERY anecdotally you see this with the measles outbreaks. When they get big enough parents start vaccinating.
Kids shouldn't have to get sick for this to happen
The thing that I don't think they've fully grasped is because we've had two nearly three generations of adults who have been vaccinated, people are going to realize pretty quickly shit is bad when suddenly their kids are dying.
The tech industry realized in the 1990s that if you make digitization about “access” everyone will think you mean for “the public” and not for them and well here we are.
When I give talks about the exploitation of GLAM by the AI industry I’m always asked “how can we defend ourselves from bots scraping our metadata?” I have no idea. That’s a question for an engineer. What I can and do say is that we shouldn’t be supporting this industry in the first place.
