Starting to believe some people were put on this earth to remind the rest of us what it looks like if you refuse to grow as a person.

So I take it down and clean it off, and I realize—

My roommate, who I will discuss later in more detail, has a pack of red monster energy drinks that she leaves around randomly, and usually full or half full.

Nothing wrong with the filter, but I give it a refresh anyways. Nothing wrong with the heater. Nothing wrong with the rocks or wood.

And then I check the lid. We have a temporary grated lid becaue we have cats.

There's a sticky red film spread across it. Dried drips into the tank.

So I check the water. I figure, okay, it's probably just something I haven't noticed, maybe they're too cold, maybe I need to do another water change.

I check everything. Nitrates off the chart. PH off. Ammonia off. Literally perfectly fine the day before.

So I start checking the equipment.
