Sometimes people obviously use automation to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit and it's comical. For example, they will say to raise the temperature of something by 25C (77F). Come again? LOL Sure, 25C is 77F in the thermometer, but no in this context.

Some countries use a word for straw ("paja" or "pajita," the literal translation of the plant material) that means masturbation colloquially for Cubans. Is is the same in Mexico?

My son, now a senior in high school, as had maybe two field trips ever, not counting college visits this year. We are in NYC and he has been in public school here since 2nd grade.

I renewed my passport last year and it took something like 11 days from online application to passport in hand, no expediting. I was very surprised at how fast it was.
I had to get my previous passport in person because I needed it for a week later (didn't realize it was expiring) and it was nuts.

Urban Appetites by Cindy Lobel has a chapter on the Early Republic. It's also a great book all-around.

Feeding Gotham is fantastic, but it's a pretty rough read for nonacademics and I suspect undergraduates too. If the student in question is a grad student, then yes. But's it's also pretty niche, I think. I don't know, I love it but it's complicated LOL.

No Useless Mouth: Waging War and Fighting Hunger in the American Revolution by @raherrmann.bsky.social is a pretty great take on food and the American Revolution.

Accommodating the Republic: Taverns in the Early United States by my former professor and now colleague @kirstenwood.bsky.social might of help with the alcohol/wine part.

A Revolution in Eating by James McWilliams is great. If memory serves me right, it doesn't quite go into the Early Republic but it does have a chapter on alcohol. It's a great foundation for the study of early American food.
