Someone at the NYT asked me a couple years ago for an opinion piece on "how to solve the Colorado River water crisis."

So I made a nice little writeup on the most obvious answer: charging for water.

Once the editorial board saw it, they freaked out & cancelled the piece.

I will say one thing: nothing demonstrates the value of military history, the staff and war colleges, and reading military theory like watching a war conducted by a bunch of guys who skipped all of that in favor of 'manliness' and push-ups.

Going to be completely frank here. I am dealing with so much AI cheating this semester that it is tempting to just give up. And please don't tell me to "just" change my assignments. There is still value in actually writing in a history class.

The DoD and Congress defunded the agency responsible for identifying and returning the remains of the pilot and crew of the KC-135.

It might be recalled that in August 2021 when there were 13 fatalities during the American pullout the GOP and MSM made it clear that this was the single greatest disaster/scandal in US military history.

It's increasingly clear that Israel and Western powers see Lebanon as a kind of old school protectorate -responsible for policing and subduing its own population but denied the possibility to exercise or defend its own sovereignty. When Macron sends them arms, they are not for use against Israel...

Lots of folks have pointed out all of the banana pants stuff about this tweet, but I guess my question would be, "and then what?" You can research & write your dissertation super fast, then what? What is the destination you're trying to get to? A job? Good luck with that. A book? Ok...? Then what?

"They’re sick people, and a lot of them were let in here. They shouldn’t have been let in. Others are just bad. They go bad. Something wrong — there’s something wrong there. The genetics are not exactly, they’re not exactly your genetic," Trump told Fox News Radio's Brian Kilmeade in an interview released Friday. "It’s one of those problems, Brian. It’s a, it’s a terrible thing, and it happens.”

Trump on Muslim immigrants to Brian Kilmeade:

“The genetics are not exactly… your genetic[s].”

1/Renee Good and Alex Pretti deserved to live rich and full lives. The federal government has announced a desultory investigation into Alex Pretti’s murder, and as of this date, no investigation at all in Renee Good’s death, thehill.com/opinion/judi....

Photo from a city park in Little Rock. In the distance, the river stretches out meandering and muddy. Green pines rise to meet to meet red rock bluffs below a clear blue sky. A pine branch stretches in the foreground

Little Rock was pretty great, you guys

This DOGE boy dissolved my Fort Negley grants, taking money earmarked for descendant-led archaeology and oral history collection because he was given power that indulged the fact that he is too arrogant to see the value in the histories of Black Tennesseans and how they have shaped ALL of the US.

that twitter billionaire's dumbass grok image proposing oil transfer by land through what looks like oman and uae, both currently in range of iranian drones and missiles. the trucks have been replaced by a giant slip n' slide running between the ships and a caption that reads "Pour Oil into Giant Slip n' Slide"

Can this be a solution?

In Feb 2022, as Vladimir Putin announced to his bunch of alcoholic sycophants that he's about to embark on a three-day adventure to take Kyiv and kill Zelenskyy, none of these knobs had the courage to tell him that this won't end up the way he thinks. But at least he didn't choose their footwear.

Iraq war’s aftermath was a disaster for the US – the Iran war is headed in the same direction More than 20 years after the US military success in Iraq, the outcome of the US effort at regime change wasn’t as expected, and authoritarians with close ties to Iran now rule the country.

Winning the war in Iraq didn’t fix Iraq. More than 20 years after the U.S. invasion, the country sits firmly in Iran’s sphere of influence.

A security scholar says this new war with Iran risks repeating the same mistake: military success without a plan for what comes next.

None of us really knows if this bill (the SAVE act) will completely undermine democracy by allowing manipulation of vote tallies.
But if that’s what we all get, these senators will not necessarily be the beneficiaries except perhaps in the short term.
They are teeing up arbitrary government.
