Literally the best thing about Jung’s Red Book is how he keeps repeating “this is my path not yours” “you can’t follow me find your own way” “wor betide those who live by examples, life is not with them”

He reeeaaallly just wants folks to individuate and stop copying

There’s a Hawaiian myth that says this world came out of the chaos of the destruction of a previous world, and the octopus was the lone survivor that slipped through.

yeah Bluesky is cool, but last night I posted a short thread on the other site and got two unprompted book recommendations that are highly relevant to my current specific interests, and I'd love to bring some of that energy over here

Braitenberg's Law of uphill analysis and downhill invention:

“It is much more difficult to guess the internal structure of an entity just by observing its behavior than it is to actually create the structure that leads to that behavior.”

people are usually both ignorant of the power of personal myth/images, and stuck in shitty ones

makes it possible to switch it out

there's a myth/context creating speech often used by leaders

there's a blurred line between invention and imagination. taking fiction and making it real

you tell people where they are, who they are, where theyre going and why theyre going there

there's another kind of speech (real & in person) where the speaker is trying to convince you of smth for their own validation (if you also believe it, then its right)

more natural speech is filled with filler words e.g. "uh, you get what i mean"

the closer i look at various forms of speech the more different they look

fiction writing is a lot more interesting when you see each character as a part of the author. you need to make a toy model of the world to write fiction, and that tells you a lot

"ruling class" is useless analysis because it locates agency in an Other and enables offloading responsibility to them

whether its "true" or not is a distraction

The difference between an open system (email, web, Bluesky, Noosphere) and a closed one (Twitter) is not so obvious during good times.

Like how there may not be an obvious day-to-day difference living in democracy vs good emperor.

But when a bad emperor happens, the difference becomes stark.
