Mabel Ping-Hua Lee was born on this day in 1896 in Guangzhou, China. Lee became a prominent figure in the women’s suffrage movement in New York, and advocated for the rights of Chinese American women who were barred from voting by the Chinese Exclusion Act until 1943. /1
