Ordinarily I'd have agreed with you and said something to that effect, but because the backlash is broadly against DHS immigration policies and not Miller specifically, tucking him away behind closed doors won't quiet the backlash. He needs to fundamentally pivot, and sidelining Miller helps that.

Carving out DHS from the funding bill last month was the smartest things the Dem have done this term. Now the GOP can't agree to the Dem's demands on funding DHS so they've shut it down.
