2/ Until the 1980s Little Egrets were a rare sight in the UK but theyโ€™ve been on the up since they first bred in Dorset in 1996. Population estimates have, however, proven tricky to assess, with birdwatchers contributing data to @ukrbbp.bsky.social and BTOโ€™s Heronries Census.

1/๐Ÿงต New BTO-led research sheds light on the number and range of Little Egrets with population estimates higher than previously thought โ€“ likely exceeding 2,000 pairs in the UK! ๐Ÿ™Œ #Ornithology @britishbirds.bsky.social

We're closing in on our first ยฃ6,000 milestone for the Beacon Ponds Little Tern Project.

Itโ€™s just the start, but hitting this today would be huge. Please share if you can.

Thank you for all your support so far!

๐Ÿงต An urgent appeal to protect one of the UKโ€™s most important Little Tern colonies at Beacon Ponds in 2026.

Without funding for professional wardening, the project may not be able to run this season.

Loved the Siberia books. I got to see one of his Grey Plover skins in the Hancock back room some years back, complete with handwritten label from one of his Siberia expeditions. And birders on Shetland call it 'work'...๐Ÿ˜

First two pages of the comic. Page one features a Kittiwake in the sky wondering where all the birds have gone. Page two shows how climate change impacts the diet of seabirds. One fish looks healthy, the other ones looks smaller and poorer quality.

Staggering to think LSW is now less than annual across our entire 120 sq km area

Go back to any SBSG annual report* from the 70s & 80s and you can read records from many of the cityโ€™s parks & woods
