Bill Link told me about touring colleges with his brother and their dad, historian Arthur Link, a UNC alum

As they drove away from visiting UNC, Bill's brother asked if they could tour Duke too.

"My father's fingers tightened on the steering wheel as he grimly said: NO SON OF MINE WILL GO TO DUKE"

I read this graph slightly differently. The cities that added more moderately priced new/renovated units saw much stronger decreased prices in older/outdated units (i.e., Austin v. Houston).

Screen capture from the EIA Hourly Electric Grid Monitor (https://www.eia.gov/electricity/gridmonitor/dashboard/electric_overview/balancing_authority/LDWP) showing a chart of hourly generation by energy source within the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power balancing authority, from November 21-27. The data indicate that natural gas is almost always the largest source, with significant contributions from solar, wind, and coal. The curve for coal fluctuates in the approximate range of 350 to 630 megawatts up to mid-day on Wednesday, November 26, when it abruptly drops to zero. It remains at zero through all of November 27, Thanksgiving Day.

Something to be thankful for!

Utah's largest coal-fired power plant—the Intermountain Power Project, located in the west desert near Delta and serving southern California—stopped burning coal at mid-day on Wednesday, just in time for Thanksgiving. 🔌💡

TRUMP [after spending 5 minutes with Zohran]: surplus value, it’s a very wonderful thing, very wonderful, and they’re stealing it. Can you believe that?

the intensity of my anger at those who would criminalize the homeless — a population literally created by the greed and callousness of the ruling class — is very hard to contain. it was you who dismantled the safety net. if you don’t like the results, put it back

Opinion: Salt Lake is Failing the Homeless - The Chronicle Don’t forget to have compassion for homeless Utahns. We need to remember how Salt Lake's heat severely impacts all of us, including unsheltered people.

Great opinion piece by @evanvanleuven.bsky.social on unsheltered homelessness and heat, aligning with much of our team's recent research in Salt Lake City. dailyutahchronicle.com/2025/07/02/o...

Atlanta’s Mayor Dickens declares himself to be in the Newsom wing of Dem Party supporting physical expulsion of homeless folks.

It’s a (not) proud tradition in Atlanta, where homeless folks were put on buses to get them out of town before 96 Olympics.

And he’ll get lots of support for this take.

Sacramento County to use drones to track homeless people on probation The county's probation department said it needs the drones to contact homeless people who are on probation, specifically in hard-to-reach spots like along the American Parkway.

"The drones won't just be eyes in the sky. They will be able to communicate with homeless people. The department said this will prevent officers from exposing themselves to potential risk, such as loose animals, terrain issues and other hazards until they are sure it is safe to move in."

This fascinating new research overturns longstanding assumptions. It finds that lower-income groups are more concerned about the environment and prefer environmental protection over economic growth, compared to higher-income groups. Data from the USA.

Opinion: Criminalizing compassion — rethinking laws for housing and homelessness Utah needs a compassionate approach to homelessness. We can start by increasing affordable housing and ensuring that Good Samaritans can live up to their best selves.

Homelessness is an incredibly complex issue. But there are some relatively straightforward, bipartisan areas of agreement. WE should both increase housing supply and decrease the suffering of the unhoused. #utleg @deseret.com.web.brid.gy @naehomelessness.bsky.social www.deseret.com/opinion/2025...
