“The Devil of Glenluce” by Eliza Linton is another one that’s a “true”report of a poltergeist haunting with demonic overtones. I was struck by how much like a modern ghost hunter account it reads since it was written in 1861.

About halfway done with the first of three initial Setting Books for my forthcoming RPG. Can’t wait to be a PDF Merchant.

Honestly anytime a work of fiction is like, “this is a true story, here’s how I found out about it” I’m a big fan.

Followed immediately by his “The Seven Lights” which is a fun little death omen story. Apparently both of these were newspaper published as stories from the Scotch Borders and I love that.

You need to be reading poetry, fiction, and nonfiction weekly if you want to be a writer.

James Hogg’s “The Hunt of Eidlon” has all the charm of a truthfully reported folk tale, all the fear and wonder of a fairy story, and all the veracity of a witch trial transcript. Huge. Magisterial. An incredible start.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a Kim Newman book that I didn’t like and despite a couple of duds I can heartily recommend this collection.
