Shiny-headed microbiologist - bacterial gene regulation, vaccines, host-pathogen interactions. Passed on his genes twice. Fond of dark ale.

Magnificent Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics at Griffith Uni Atack lab representation from Phil and Finn sharing their work at BaPath #bacpath #bacpath24. Can relax and have a beer now the hard work is done…

So, quicker to have primers synthesised and delivered from Singapore (~6000km) than to have a poster printed and delivered from Brisbane (80km). Wonderful customer service from outsourced Uni printers.

Dear Minister Jason Clare,

We know you’ve been approving ARC grants quickly. Could Discovery Projects 2025 be expedited?

ARC opened next round already & internal deadlines at many unis are in 2 weeks. Teams whose 2025 apps will be funded are wasting time prepping re-applications!

Here is some recent work we've been doing at Cultivarium on detecting methylation patterns with nanpore. We find that nanopore's modified basecalling models works well - if you have recently sequenced a prokaryotic isolate you can use MicrobeMod to ID methylation:

Our latest paper is out now. The brilliant Chris Connor’s entire PhD in one paper. And I hope a new avenue of research opened in MDR E. coli

I’m going to start with a group shoutout - Three lab members, three prizes in a week - Zak with the @GlycoGriffith director’s medal for best PhD thesis, and Ashley (left) and Nuala with best poster prizes at #glycomicsweek. Proud is an understatement. What a team…
