Now there are some real physics out there that have interesting results that seem like they might break things (quantum entanglement seems like it breaks the speed of light), so I guess never say never, but... a big finding of relativity was a universal speed limit.

Physics seems to indicate that any information can't travel faster than light anywhere in the universe. To have an interstellar species, they either have to have a way to break that rule (invent warp drives), or there exists some other physics out there making the rule untrue (space time bending).

My opinion is we solved the Fermi paradox when we figured out that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light. Every thing is then basically "but what if they could though?" But if you accept that FTL is impossible, including communication, then yeah, no life would ever travel that far.
