05.05.2025 11:52 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You are right, the individual an methodological differences in probing consciousness is also important for anesthesia. Here the additional problem might be that people cannot always be awakened to collect experience reports. But maybe people can be trained to recall more? What do you think about it?
04.05.2025 10:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thanks a lot Andre. Just discovered your wonderful article "Are we really unconscious in 'unconscious' states?". I agree with you and suspect sleep to be a conscious state as well, just a different mode of consciousness with lots of forgetfulness and periods of unresponsiveness to the environment.

You make some similar points in the paper, so it would have been nice to include it π.
I only used the metadata of the DREAM database, so I can't say much about the EEG part of it. But it is really wonderful to have this data openly available. Thanks a lot for contributing to it π
Wow, thanks a lot BjΓΈrn for pointing me to this wonderful work of yours and collegues. I sadly missed it, otherwise I would have cited it.
Presenting one of your insightful EEG Lempel-Ziv complexity papers in a journal club lead me to do this review and analysis.
Sleep is a more conscious state than assumed. We analyzed 69 recent awakening studies with dream reports and found that:
1) deeper sleep leads fo forgetting ones dreamsβnot a lack of consciousness
2) gentler awakenings show 20% more dream recall in NREM sleep

Feeling pain is not the same as thinking where that pain comes from. Despite that simple experiential difference, the words "consciousness" and "mind" are often used interchangeably.
@marco-masi.bsky.social has a great article on this.
Thank you Santosh for this wonderful summary of current affairs and the remedy, a change of consciousness.
05.04.2025 06:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Did you know some people have four types of cones in their retinas? Michael Newall has suggested this may allow them to see colors that most of us with three cones do not perceive:

Thanks for sharing. And even the Libet experiments do not prove that there is no free will. For example the brain activity before a decision could also reflect a decision process:

26.12.2024 11:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0How often do you dream? I reviewed 69 studies that woke up participants and found that dreaming occured most of the time, even from deep sleep. The awakening method, the sleep environment and participant characteristics all shape the amount of dreams reported.
