Family first, understanding reality at its most fundamental second. Also sports and good food. In my day job I study the structure of brains in beings, and the structure of beings with brains.

Luckily I still get the pleasure of seeing the weird plushy purple peppers for split second every time I scroll past this post! The magic is not yet gone 🎉

If not, look to the physical structure of the system underpinning whichever algorithm is implemented and use that to make an inference based on your best available theory of consciousness.
Do you think it feels like anything to be a modern AI? Why? And Which algorithm do you have in mind?
Hoping there'll be a summary with pdfs of posters here later 🤞
For those of us that couldnt go to the conference this year
FAST COMPANY Article: While retirement typically occurs, after completing a career and saving and investing for it, a new trend is emerging among Gen Z career professionals called "micro-retirement." Micro- retirements involve taking a one to two- week break from work every 12 to 18 months. Gen Z is using micro-retirement to avoid burnout, find greater fulfillment in their work, and enhance their overall well-being. However, it's not just Gen-Z:
'Vacations.'
The word is 'vacations.'
How so? Any highlights/take-homes regarding this? Unfortunately I am missing out on assc this year...

I just finished the regional FENS conference here in Oslo, and my key takeaway was that spikes cannot possibly be the right level (or kind of thing) to account for the presence, or properties, of experience. It is just way to erratic, noisy, fast, and underconstrained.
Looking fwd to the paper
These are great!
Lovely example of what's lacking in today's AI systems: world models/physics/causality. Probably in part due to being trained on observations, as opposed to interventions testing it's predictions (ie They passively watch rather than actively engage). thus, they don't understand!
I'm here. Not much though 😊

For example, something like "How many deaths that would be prevented from modern medicine do you think is an acceptable sacrifice to return to your more 'nature based' alternative approach (less vaxx, no pasteurization etc)?"

01.06.2025 23:20 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I have tried different topics and remain underwhelmed. I haven't exactly tried hard to engineer optimal prompts or whatever, but I'd characterize the reports it spits out like "decent student summaries" of the topic I ask. Not bad (except when it fails, which it sometimes does) but also not profound
