Climate hawk. Spent five years on renewable heat policy, and now in 6th year on the decarbonisation of steel and industrial power policies. πŸ‡©πŸ‡°πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŒ³

I've always found the UK's decline into major gas import dependency troubling and seen the electrification of demand and efficiency as the core solution to energy security AND decarbonisation (climate change is also hugely worrying to me).

Q: Why can’t the UK do more rail electrification?
A: because it is too expensive
Q: why is rail electrification so expensive in the UK?

Because it’s cis kids.
The NHS will quite casually give cis kids whatever treatment they need, even PBsπŸ‘‡
No trials. No concerns about side effects. No moral panic.

Wow - those are quite phenomenal headlines given the details of the story.

Ahh look, he’s just a β€˜nerdy’ guy. No harm done.

You need to scroll down to paragraph 13 of the Sky piece to find the full story!

Chatbots β€” LLMs β€” do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re β€œright” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

You know how sometimes you watch a sci fi movie and they’re on an alien planet and it’s got like the Big Wall of Storm advancing rapidly and messing with your sense of Euclidean geometry? I just think we should all remember that’s also this planet, and we keep choosing to piss it off for some reason

Racist incidents against UK nurses surge by 55% Royal College of Nursing calls on government to stop using anti-migrant rhetoric, which it says emboldens racist behaviour

This is what tolerance of anti-migrant political rhetoric leads to. A surge in racial abuse against nurses and care workers. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Draft Tory legislation on removing indefinite leave to remain is insane.

Would chuck out those not earning over Β£38K - including many pensioners!

+ social protections seems to include child benefit, so load of people with (British!) kids!

I think we can now dispense with those saying β€œLabour shouldn’t need to respond to every mad rant from a Tory backbencher”, since Lam is not a backbencher and her proposal has been backed by her party.

Energy bills likely to rise by 20% in next four years, says Britain’s biggest supplier MPs told that even if wholesale prices plummet, consumers face higher bills owing to costs of government policies

Probably worth injecting some context into this headline.

There are problems in non-commodity costs at the moment, granted. However, Octopus is being really crafty choosing a 4-year horizon to make this (actually quite dubious*) claim.

See below.

One part of the energy revolution

The rapid decline in battery pack prices, matched by increased uptake

Batteries can be used to match the daily cycle of solar energy, discharging in evening/night after being charged during the day

They are solar power enablers

Ah, NESO Winter Outlook day. That wonderful time when even though the *actual report* states barely anything of concern, grifters get to invent totally made up scenarios that imagine all ICs are unavailable at once because a lack of wind turns off French nuclear....or something.

And we have even less protection here. Trump can't fire judges who have constitutional protection. A government here could pass a law allowing them to do so with a majority of one in the Commons.
