If your government is announcing a law similar to that which the UK just forced on UK residents; that is not the "Online Safety Act", that is a similar-but-different law being put in place by a completely different government.

It's scary how many people don't understand that a law tends to end at a border. There might be something similar enforced on the other side, but that is a DIFFERENT law.
The UK's "Online Safety Act" affects citizens/corporate entities WITHIN the UK, not civilians OUTSIDE it.

"What's she carrying?"
"Is she carrying a projector?"
"Is that a game consle in her hands?"

It doesn't reflect well on my arty credentials if I can't render a box file to recognisable quality XD

The problem isn't merely left or right; it's the extreme of either.
Regardless, a government from EITHER side will never relinquish power that a law gives them. The current UK government did not write or enact the Online Safety Act, but they've officially said they've no intention of repealing it.

Same reason that side of the spectrum like AI generated images; they're not interested in the process. They just want to claim the end result as theirs.

This is it. This is here to stay. It's not going away. They may refine it, throw a rug over it to hide the stain, but they'll never reverse it. It gives a government more power, and it doesn't matter what a government claims to represent; they never, EVER relinquish power.

I thought this crap was just in the UK. It's not. Online "safety bills" that "pROtecT tHe ChildREn!" are bubbling up everywhere.
This is a full-on Orwellian nightmare. When the words "state approved media" appear in legislation; it's no longer conspiracy theory.
