This doesn’t mean it’s easy, but I’ve been feeling strongly about this. I think Patreon can make you think it’s something inescapable when lots of people are running their own membership sites or newsletters. And have for a long time. I strongly want Patreon to work for artists, not the reverse.

Hey y'know this is why it's great to have things like my members website. Which is an independently hosted way for me to catalogue my work just in case this ever happened. Y'know, just in case.

Just a periodic reminder that it's a good idea to bookmark your favorite artists' sites, sign up for their newsletters, and follow them everywhere you can. (My links are in my profile & pinned post!). Because of the current climate of censorship you never know where we'll get kicked off of next.

These are good thoughts! Tabling is such a weird thing that I’ve seen a lot of people struggle to figure out how to approach them. I agree with what you say here. There’s so much pressure with tabling at shows, it just keeps increasing.

And it gives anyone too far away from illustration, comics, and artistic industries a way to see the pain this is causing us. That it's impacting us, often in ways that aren't as flashy. The narrative is that LLMs can easily replace artists. It's not true, but they need to hear it from us firsthand.

Reading about these issues motivates me and so many others to fight back when the chances arrive in front of us. I've already seen moments where I could offer help to people and I've done my best. But I'm interested in learning more. To do more.

Hearing about your struggles makes it easier for people like me on the tech side to see where these kind of tools are being used to hurt everyone. And to think about how to help.

I've been listening to @bcmerchant.bsky.social 's work for for months now. They're a good writer with a very critical eye on the impact this is having on all of us. And I think sending them your story is a good idea for many reasons. I'll point out a few.

The wonderful tech writer and author of Blood in the Machine is running a blog series called AI Killed My Job. If you or any other artist you know has had their work impacted by AI, please contact them.

To underline: getting this kind of information out there is critical for the arts right now.
