ooooo yay. I hope you get to use it to account for so many things that would otherwise be slightly more annoying -- with FLOURISH

I am finding that the annoyance of writing them out is not covered by the satisfaction of immediately crossing them off afterward

Do you what that is, when it happens? Because I can tell you. It is unsatisfying and bad.

When one to-do item begets more and more follow-on to-do items but you repeatedly come back to the list and there is nothing to check off because the progenitor has already been accounted for and the offspring were never on the list

This quote has been with me every day since I first heard it and I love her so much for saying it.

This creep's entire line of thought here is eugenicist trash. People are PEOPLE. You don't measure their value by energy consumption. They have inherent value as HUMAN BEINGS. A fucking LLM has no inherent human value. You cannot compare them.

A programmer's loss of identity - ratfactor

This great piece resonates with my own sense of loss and mourning of my social and professional identity as a computer programmer as the community of software engineers embraces LLMs and continues to sink further into surveillance and behavioral manipulation-based technofascistic business models.

I’m not sure there is a lesson to be learned here but fwiw they are 92% nylon and 8% spandex

Like understand that but however, with the rooms in apartments I’ve rented, and the furniture that I have dragged into them, I don’t see what the alternative is

Lol i am always confused when they’re like “don’t just put the furniture around the perimeter of the room”

I’ve been wearing tights a lot in the winter because of my snow boots (the logic of this is not wholly clear to me either now that I write it out bc I have plenty of wide pants that could accommodate the boots but anyway) this makes the continued survival of the other tights all the more notable

Anyway I think they’re ok. Sometimes they get something that looks visually like a snag but you can wiggle the fabric back to normal. Maybe you can do that with other tights too but I’ve had some satisfying tension redistribution moments with them.

Not that I’ve spent a lot of time contemplating that….

But imagine how vexing their business would be if the tights truly never failed and if, by their own excellency, they gradually satisfied every customer until there was no one left to sell to, continually discounting their way toward a hosiery perfection so complete it extinguishes its market…

I think I legitimately paid one dollar for each pair (maybe two dollars…?) it just makes no sense.

I have nothing against Sheertex as a company, but I do want to say this: in 2014 I bought a stack of completely unremarkable black tights on clearance at Urban Outfitters (just their in-house brand), and I still have several pairs in rotation. They’re basically like new…

When we moved to Minnesota we also had a couch delivered first and foremost before bringing in all of our stuff (in subzero temps with the generous help of @normcharlatan.bsky.social and his family members)

wow I am sorry. I was not operating on the register of whatever happened in this convo, and then I missed all the notifications but I promise that when I was regarding the dual language cheez-its box, my intentions were true and not meant to be infantilizing.
