Decentralized finance is booming − and so are the security risks. My team surveyed nearly 500 crypto investors and uncovered the most common mistakes Researchers identified 5 major security pitfalls – and how to steer clear of them.

What are the security risks for decentralized currency? That's what Computer Science Ph.D. student Mingyi Liu and her colleagues set out to determine when they surveyed nearly 500 crypto investors to identify common mistakes among traders. A lack of transparency makes it nearly impossible to conduct a "postmortem" when these systems cause self driving cars to crash or cripple websites that have integrated AI tools. Or, at least it used to! Check out their piece here: lnkd.in/gzZmeJ5K

Stan Peceny is a cryptographer who designed several core MPC algorithms and integrated them into fast tool chains, improving state of the art up to 1000x! Professor Vladimir Kolesnikov, his advisor, said he is very proud of Stan and his research!

Zhengxian He is a researcher who started his Ph.D. at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. He was advised by Professor Mustaque Ahamad and he collaborated with industry partners during his time at Georgia Tech. Zhengxian now works at Amazon!

Ammar Askar is an accomplished researcher and hacker advised by Professor Taesoo Kim. He helped develop a LLM-based concolic execution engine for the upcoming DARPA #AIxCC challenge for Team Atlanta!

Commencement is a bitter sweet moment as we say farewell to the incredible students we have gotten to know during their time at Georgia Tech. We put together a micro-site celebrating five outstanding Ph.D. students leaving SCP to continue impacting the world of Computer Science!

Congratulations to all of our winners!

Two SCP faculty received The Dean's Award, which is presented to a member or members of the college who have contributed significantly to the success of the college. Dean Sarkar selected a number of faculty including Prof. Kim and Regents Prof. Lee for their contributions to AI research!

Our staff winner, Elijah Mastinu, received The Ruthie Book Outstanding Staff Team Member Award for his stellar customer service to SCP faculty as well as his work to improve administrative systems within the school.

Next, Animesh Chhotaray was awarded the Outstanding Research Scientist Award! Animesh works with Assoc. Professor Saman Zonouz and the Georgia Tech School of Electrical & Computer Engineering to protect the crucial cyber-physical systems found in critical infrastructure.

Our first winner is Frank Li, who received the Outstanding Junior Faculty Teaching Award. His students hold him in very high regard which is reflected in the annual Course Instructor Opinion Survey (CIOS) award for excellence in teaching.

Yesterday, the College of Computing held its annual awards ceremony and honored faculty, students, and staff for their hard work over the past year. SCP had four faculty and one staff member represent the school on the award's stage!

We were very fortunate to hear from Zhuo Zhang today on how third party red-teams can help the broader #cybersecurity community protect itself from the growing number of #cyberattacks.
