This summer, I travelled to two places that brought the question of the meaning of history to the fore: Oradour-sur-Glane and Guernica. Both towns were the place of war crimes, and at least Guernica is etched into modern consciousness thanks to Picassoβs painting on the topic.

I am really saddened by the sudden passing of Wulf Kansteiner: www.memorystudiesassociation.org/wulf-kanstei.... Wulf was not only a world-leading memory scholar, he was also one of the foremost postnarrativist philosophers of history, and above all, a really kind and generous person. R.I.P.

Check out my new review of Ian Hesketh's A History of Big History: link.springer.com/article/10.1.... In short, I think Hesketh does a good job of discerning a doubtful speculative philosophy of history and science in Big History, but the judgment about it as a research programme is still out.

The work of Leon J. Goldstein is currently not much in vogue in the philosophy of history. While he and his (rather unorthodox) antirealism are sometimes mentioned in the ongoing discussion on realism, his distinct (metaphilosophical) approach to the philosophy of history is hardly discussed. Yesterday, we held the workshop "Pragmatist Philosophy of History" with Jouni-Matti Kuukkanen. It was a lively discussion of the main issues of his forthcoming book "Doing, Knowing and Getting it Right". Look out for the book and a planned publication based on the workshop.
