BN1's minimalist take feels like a great abstraction, but this approach, which more or less defines how the games handle the web from then on out, def conveys well the sense of adventure in websurfing. how you can get into so many things & meet so many people, & yet never actually leave your home

09.02.2026 05:48 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 9    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

but MMBN2's internet has "furniture", you see navis walk around and talk, countries have their own parts of the web with their own culture, there's even social squares with shopkeeps! it connects the humans but it also becomes "the navis' world". it's quite different and charming

playing in order again it's interesting how MMBN2 goes through great lengths to make its internet feel more like a parallel world

MMBN1's is very much more of an extension of the real world, it's pure & solitary feeling and it makes the role of megaman & navis feel firmly about practicality

megaman decides to use a message board to try and get leads on locating a very important batch file that'll help him fend off a terrorist attack on lan's home country and the very first reply he gets is some guy ribbing him for not following forum etiquette bc he just dropped a post and left

I may delete this because itโ€™s a bit spicy but it shouldnโ€™t be lost on us that games being turned into TV is essentially harvesting the stories written by those who donโ€™t have union representation or healthcare with WGA by those that do. Our stories are good enough for TV but the writers arenโ€™t?

Q. So we're 21 episodes in, how are you feeling Kamen Rider Zeztz so far, both the show itself as well as how they're producing and giving it to the U.S?
A. OOOH!! Hmmh.. let's see. I'm a kinder to Takahashi's shows than some people are, so overall my feelings skew very positive. I'll break them down briefly.

Good:
โ€ข Takahashi's shows are generally excellent at constant intrigue, and Zeztz is no exception. There's this lingering mystery that feels further amplified by the surreal dream settings. It has less moving parts than Geats, but there's still enough ambiguity in the air that keeps me wondering.
โ€ข I like the episodics!! A "dream mystery" is such an excellent idea, and it really sets them apart from the way previous seasons like W and OOO have handled their two-parter structures. I love how Baku accomplishing his job is related to discerning the original dreamer, as well as what's causing the dream in the first place, and it leads to really fun twists and scenarios.
โ€ข Decent cast! Baku is very charming and likable, Nem is a sweetie. Fujimi and Nagumo have a fun little dynamic. The main cast feels relatively small and focused right now, which I appreciate. There is a certain "loneliness" about it, though, but it feels appropriate. The Lady seems like an interesting villain and Nox is a very interesting character.
โ€ข Pretty great OST! The opening is definitely one of my favorites yet.

Mixed-to-Meh:
โ€ข Main character dynamics aren't much to write home about. This has always been what prevents Takahashi seasons from sticking harder with me; I feel like he can write interesting ideas but when it comes to just fun and entertaining character relationships he very rarely hits home for me. It feels like he prioritizes narrative ideas and arcs above all else. Baku feels very "isolated" from the others, even when they're on the same screen together to me, but again, I can concede that it at least feels appropriate for his role in the setting. I get the feeling that I'm going to walk out feeling similarly as I did about Ex-Aid, Zero-One, and Geats, in that I'll have really enjoyed the characters, and definitely have a favorite, but they won't have stuck with me as much as other seasons.
โ€ข The suits past Zeztz itself don't do a whole lot for me. Zeztz grew on me, but I still don't love the "western superhero"-esque design philosophy for this season where they have more of a bodysuit look with naked waists. The other Agents have kind of samey designs with not much in the way of interesting or exciting details. I guess it does invoke earlier Heisei but I would still rather have a Kuuga than a Zeztz. It's all the opposite of what I loved out of Gavv; that season has a collection of colorful, silly suits, but they have such strong shapes and motifs and they're so memorable and fun to see in action. These suits for better or worse really do feel like a strange "Hollywood-ified" take on Rider.
โ€ข Fights are fine and still as fun as your average Rider season would have it, but DAMN do i miss Satoshi Fujita as action director.

All in all, pretty fun ride! I'm definitely locked in for the rest of the series. For Rider's first live foray into the West I think they're going about it in a good way now. Being able to watch the livestreams or on demand definitely helps a lot (even if I end up checkin for subs later because I want it in better quality).

the TL;DR is that i think it won't be a favorite for me, but it's definitely very solid. this is par for the course with this writer, i think. I'm more worried about the last cour because you know how that tends to go...

An image with nine small illustrations of a cherry blossom axolotl against a pink and blue background. Its gills are stylised to look like cherry blossom branches, pink and tiny and dainty. The body of the axolotl itself is a soft pink, the tail fin shaped to look like a cherry blossom petal. All the tiny axolotls are enjoying the beauty of the flowers and the fine colours of spring, frolicking among flowers. We cannot wait to welcome spring!

Q. What's your favourite robot master/maverick?
A. This is really tough... Dust Man is awesome!! I love the big vacuum above his head and his tiny skull with his eyes bulging out. It's somehow both very silly and kind of intimidating. It's an element I think is shared with Air Man, so it's easy to see why this design was chosen. I really love Impact Man from 11, too. So cool.. I like his little gimmick where he's actually three guys. Torch Man from the same game is also great. Oh, you know, I always had a soft spot for Crystal Man. AUGH

As far as Maverick bosses go, I think I have a bit of a bias towards some of the bug-based ones. Gravity Beetle is actually awesome, as is Izzy Glow (sorry; Shining Firefly). X2 in general has some of my favorite designs; I love Overdrive Ostrich and Morph Moth.

I'll go a bit further and say Mutos Reploids; I really like Heat Genblem, the Anchus brothers, and Maha Ganesharif.

Q. What kind of music do you listen to while drawing?
A. I usually skew towards primarily instrumental tracks; it's very hard for me to focus on drawing otherwise. I come back to jazz fusion groups a lot (Snarky Puppy, Weather Report, Return to Forever, Progger to name some). It's very hard for me to focus on drawing otherwise. There's a lot of albums I just haven't gotten through as a result because I either fail to focus on drawing or I fail to focus on the album. Alas! This is all assuming I'm not playing a video essay first, actually, but even then I run into the same problems there heheh...
