Eight people detained for allegedly protesting in support of Palestine are currently undertaking the largest hunger strike in UK prisons in over 40 years. The strikers need international solidarity to show the world they are not alone. mondoweiss.net/2025/12/pale...
Congratulations Mirko, fantastic news! Looking forward to reading it
We (@crossdale.bsky.social, Christina Pantazis, @roxana-pessoa.bsky.social, Tiê Franco Brotto and I) present the first academic peer-reviewed article, studying the criminalisation and repression of climate and environmental protest as a global phenomenon. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
We have had a report saying two women walking up to a protest today at BAe Samlesbury were stopped by Lancashire Police and advised to remove their t-shirts that say 'Free Palestine', as it may "breach the proscription order".
And so it begins.
2/2 @palaction.bsky.social follow in a proud tradition of anti-militarist direct action, while setting new standards for a relentless assault on the war machine. Whatever happens today and over the next weeks, that legacy will live on.
1/2 It's worth reflecting on the fact that the proscription of @palaction.bsky.social comes not because the state is strong, but because it is weak. The established methods of repression and criminalisation have not stood up to the bravery and commitment of activists.
Sounds good - I guess it shifts depending on what we mean by war, but a few others that jump to mind are dehumanisation, orientalism, protection myth, patriarchy, continuum of violence, and of course, for @furtadoht.bsky.social ontological militarism
Depends how broad you want to go, but policing, pacification, counter-insurgency, racialisation, securitization?
In the current geopolitical and higher ed context, the publication of this special forum on "technologies of armed violence" is very dear to my heart: academic.oup.com/isagsq/issue... /1
The piece is part of a brilliant special issue on Technologies of Armed Violence, edited by @annastavrianakis.bsky.social
Brand new article, in which I examine how arms companies - Thales in particular - try to legitimate themselves through policing discourses, and think about what it means to situate the arms trade as an integral component of global policing.

It's remarkable how little interest there has been in the legacy media about the police moving from the crack down on Palestine direct action and student encampments that it ignored, now to negotiated, usually very cooperative, A-B demonstrations.
This is how state repression spreads.
My friend Linka is housebound, and is trying to raise £ for a wheelchair that would change her life. It's obviously extremely messed up that she has to fundraise for this herself, but such is the UK in 2025. Please give something if you're able x

Today is my birthday and I’m finally launching my crowdfunder for a wheelchair. I’ve spent 5 years housebound and it’s time for that to change. Anything you can give is appreciated, even if that’s just sharing this tweet with your followers ♿️ #NEISvoid #MutualAid #DisabledSky

'How did this happen?' asks The Times, which has run thousands of pieces inciting hatred of trans people.
"I damaged the petrol pump screens as an act of care, because in times of great peril, a caring person has to stand up for what is right. My actions have already cost me greatly. But I regret nothing." - @ritaissa.bsky.social for @bigissue.com

From the intro of my forthcoming book (May 2025): *Freedom Ship: The Uncharted History of Escaping Slavery by Sea*: "Maritime escape was a long, slow-moving, and unstoppable oceanic wave of resistance, bigger and more powerful than we have ever known."

A Conversation piece about our recent report @crossdale.bsky.social @roxana-pessoa.bsky.social @uob-policystudies.bsky.social theconversation.com/repression-o...
The man known for “The soul of soul” which he said about his murdered granddaughter got killed today. The soul of the soul was killed. And the soul is now killed too.
Sanctimonious lectures about violence from a class of people who have spent the last year excusing, justifying and outright supporting some of the most heinous political violence the world has ever seen.
Happy to have worked on this with @berglundoscar.bsky.social @roxana-pessoa.bsky.social Tie Franco Britto and Christina Pantazis.
UK leads on arrests, but bigger story is the global elite consensus on repressing activism to avoid real action on climate change.
