Something Something Soup Something SOMETHING SOMETHING SOUP SOMETHING could be defined as a videogame. However, we prefer to see it as an interactive thought experiment: a piece of technology that discloses situations and presents notions in ways that are interactive and negotiable (and maybe even playful).

Fun game that could be an active learning exercise for teaching about categorization and prototypes https://soup.gua-le-ni.com/

I do love that our friendship is maintained during busy times by all three of us tagging each other in memes that begin with some version of “have you ever seen something marvelous” 😂

Every time I stumble across AI art (always against my will and efforts), a wave of frustration and disappointment washes over me.

Sometimes, when I wake up in the morning, my cat is still asleep on top of my stomach, and I do believe that it is one of the loveliest experiences in this life.

Brutal to have it come from your own kid. Mine is usually from my husband asking, “… what did you just say?” Also brutal, but different.

Sorry to everyone who ever heard me use the word “conscripted,” for I fear that I did not know what it meant until this morning.

One of the most humbling adult experiences is realizing that you have been using a word wrong for over 30 years. Another is learning that you have been pronouncing a word wrong for just as long.

This sets a really troubling precedent. Texas A&M is the university with the largest student body in the US. This will certainly have a chilling effect across the country.

Working in a supportive environment where people go out of their way to help you succeed will really rewire your brain and hit reset on your sympathetic nervous system, huh.

Bummed about the new researchrabbit.ai update! I use this site for every literature review, and it is now too slow and buggy to be practical. :(

What an interesting idea! Or #skinnytok influencers, which is the new trend in online pro-eating disorder content. My work doesn’t often pull from epidemiology, but it’s always interesting to think about new intersections here. The more lenses we put on a subject, the closer we get to the truth.

In our interviews with fat-identified gay men, many spoke to the pervasiveness of weight stigma on the apps and engaged in a variety of safety strategies to avoid experiencing it in person. Shoutout to my long-time mentee and collaborator @connorelbe.bsky.social for his fabulous work here.

Direct Harms of Microaggressions and Discipline Among Grindr Users: An Analysis of the Social Harm of Femmephobia and Sizeism - Sexuality & Culture Microaggressions are subtle yet pervasive forms of prejudice that reinforce exclusion and marginalisation within social spheres. The theory of microaggressions has been widely applied to concepts of racial discrimination, while a few have applied such theory to other characteristics, like sexual orientation, and even fewer have examined concepts of within-group microaggressions, such as femmephobia or sizeism. This study examines within-group microaggressions among Grindr users, particularly focusing on femmephobia and sizeism as two of the most significant issues in relevant literature, by using a harm-oriented framework informed by theories of oppression and microaggressions. Drawing on survey responses and qualitative narratives (N = 100), three interconnected themes emerged: degradation, exclusion, and monitoring and conformity. Findings indicate that microaggressions on Grindr operate as mechanisms of discipline and punishment, while they can have significant effects on users. By shifting the focus from individual actions to collective harm, this research contributes to a harm-oriented understanding of microaggressions, arguing that they function as tools of control that sustain exclusionary norms and social hierarchies within online dating platforms.

Very!! Important!! Study!!

If you’ve spent any time on Grindr, you may have seen the phrase “no fats, no femmes, no [insert other identity/appearance category here].” This study explores the functions and harms of these exclusionary and marginalizing descriptors on users.
