What is said.
What is done.
What’s the intention?

Another example of where an argument is put, seemingly based on evidence, logic, and reason.
The resulting public policy change or legislation will then be rammed through.
The intention however is less tax through a minimalist state.

Fucky McFuckface looking smarmy with a Herald headline reading 'Regulatory Standards Bill: A new law to get our mojo back as a country - David Seymour'.

As if we haven't heard enough about David Seymour's opinions lately....

I stopped reading when I got to the bit where we don't need earthquake standards because not that many people have died in earthquakes compared to cancer.

Indeed - but one concern I have: Yield to nobody in my disdain for Willis. She was a dishonest fiscal illiterate in Opposition, and hasn't improved on the Treasury benches. But she's not been freelancing on this flustercluck. Please don't let the dudes off the hook, people.

There seems to be near universal panning of this decision making. I tend to avoid hyperbole as a matter of course (because I think it's more appropriate for to me focus on policy itself) but you very rarely see this type of near total agreement with wording this strongly.

Oh goodness, because that decision by Muldoon is considered one of the, if not THE, singular worst mistakes in NZ financial policy history.

It was startling but unsurprising to read that 1940s and 50s Americans were against establishing universal healthcare because black people would get it too. Shades of this racist attitude are visible in New Zealand too with the current de-prioritisation of non-pakeha health care.

The new port facilities bridges for the new ferries.

With some design by Simeon Brown.

Vlado Chernozemski, who assassinated King Alexander I of Yugoslavia, belonged in his youth to a club that was devoted to a game of regicide.

In the game, known as "chess," contestants subtly maneuver into a position that allows them to topple the opponent's monarch.

When haste makes waste & is risky, dangerous & mean Govt set to spend double on new ferries; Govt halves health IT spending, leaving hospitals on unsupported Windows 2012; 4,000 vulnerable kids’ future at risk after Govt abruptly cancels contract

Always loads of interesting stuff in Bernard Hickey’s daily Dawn Chorus podcast thingie but this really stood out today.
The cancellation of Health NZ’s IT upgrade means our public health system will continue running on (unsupported) Windows 2012.
Go hackers!!

Cartoon strip. Title: The Mother of Invention. David Seymour holding an envelope from The Ministry of Regulation, addressed to him. He’s saying, “Look! From my very own Ministry! That I invented!” 2nd frame: David Seymour opening the envelope. 3rd frame: David Seymour’s eyebrows going up, and he says, “This… This is…Free, frank and fearless advice!” 4th frame: The letter he’s reading is discarded. It reads, “Anti Red Tape Bill Not Needed” He’s saying, “Grrrr This is not what I asked for”. Last frame shows him miserable, with his head in his hands. Brooke Van Velden is standing beside him, saying, “Never mind, David, I’ve invented some employment law to deal with that”

Support our campaign to oppose MAGA extremism

MAGA’s Project 2025 falsely claims climate policy is “economy-killing” & that diversity objectives are “irrelevant”. The U.S. already has faced 23 major climate disasters since Jan. 2023, costing billions.

So it turns out $900m is > $551m. And Windows 2012 is ok for Health NZ. And defunding a charity wrapped around 4k vulnerable children is ok. Here's what happens when a Government unnecessarily panics about a non-existent 'Budget Crisis'. When hast makes waste. thekaka.substack.com/p/when-haste...
