Nah. It was definitely some kind of hawk or falcon. Broad, squat neck. Thanks though! I can't find anything that perfectly matches the description. Too big for a Cooper's, but with the same solid gray coloration on the top of the wings. Same chest color as a red shouldered but w/out the wing pattern

Bird people: I live outside Richmond and just saw a remarkably large raptor with solid gray wings (when perched — I didn't see the undersides) and an orange-red chest. This was significantly larger than a crow, for size reference. It didn't have the patterning of a red shouldered hawk. What was it?
