One of the things I respect about my wife is that she didn't have a baby to have a baby. She wanted kids. To be a mother. To raise a human. Having a baby is a benefit, not the point. She doesn't treat him like a toy or a trophy. She treats him like potential with a pulse. A warm, wriggling lifepath

I thought parenting TikTok would be less infuriating than the larger internet. And then I watched an "influencer" tell people that fathers shouldn't ever sit with their babies without the mother's permission. And now I want to smash the internet.

It kinda irritates me that definite articles and possessive pronouns are generally omitted when talking about babies. Why.

"Do ____ with baby" "support baby's head" "when baby is awake...."

It feels like an institutionalized form of baby talk. *My* baby is spoken to in poetry.

The brain worms are winning

The two things I haven't shared with anyone who wasn't there in the moment — my wedding vows, and the poem I read to my son shortly after he was born.
